🌿 Happy ! This May, we're celebrating the incredible natural world right outside our door here in Columbia, NC.

Somerset Place — once a historic plantation built among wetlands — has been beautifully transformed through conservation into a thriving habitat for native wildlife. Spot a bald eagle soaring overhead, catch a glimpse of a river otter, or follow a zebra swallowtail butterfly along the trail at Pettigrew State Park. These wetlands are a true sanctuary.

The bears are calling! 🐻 The 12th Annual National Black Bear Festival is June 5–6 in Plymouth, NC — and we’d love for Blue Juniper Inn to be your home base for the weekend.

Friday evening kicks things off and Saturday is packed: wild bear tours, live music, kayaking, paddle-wheel cruises on the Roanoke River, a drone & fireworks show, and activities for the whole family.

Join us on June 13th for guided morning hikes as part of our Sunrise to Starlight at Mattamuskeet celebration for National Trails Day! Beginning at 8:00 AM, participants will have the opportunity to choose from two guided hikes through the Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge where guides will help identify local wildlife, discuss the unique ecosystems of the refuge, and share information about the area’s natural beauty and conservation efforts.

Participants should meet at the Mattamuskeet Lodge by 7:30 AM prior to the hikes. While National Trails Day, organized by the American Hiking Society, is officially celebrated on June 6th, we chose to celebrate on June 13th in hopes that outdoor enthusiasts can attend multiple events happening across the region.
