High Country Motel and Cabins

High Country Motel and Cabins Come cozy up in the mountains! Just 4 miles from Yellowstone National Park’s Northeast Gate! We purchased the High Country in June 2011.

We have worked hard to make it one of the best places to stay in Cooke City. Our mission is to build a community of family around the High Country and make a spot in paradise where people feel like they are returning home.

This stretch of the highway opening is always welcomed by the locals. It means much quicker access to supplies , healthcare, and tha beautiful drive through sunlight basin. It is a real sign of Spring!

The Upper Yellowstone Snowmobile club does such an amazing job with this every year! It is not an easy lift either. A lot of hard work goes into it, and it is a much needed celebration for locals. Winters are long 😂 what a great event! Nice job everyone

Glorious winter ! Praying other areas get snow for natures sake, but if you wanna ride, we have the goods!

I remember a horse being out all winter in the mountains around Cooke and finally being rescued in the spring after being spotted. It is a beautiful thing when community comes together.

Yellowstone National Park update!
Park entrances and roads remain open and accessible, but please note: all NPS visitor centers and public restrooms are closed at this time.
While the National Park Service will respond to emergencies, it is important that you do not stress extremely limited services.

If you visit the park during the government shutdown, please remember that we are all stewards of this incredible place. It is important that we all work together to recreate responsibly and follow all park rules and regulations in order to keep Yellowstone an intact ecosystem and not stress the workforce.

If you choose to recreate in Yellowstone National Park, please be sure to:
- Pack out what you pack in.
- Respect wildlife by keeping the appropriate distance: 100 yards for bears and wolves, and 25 yards for all other wildlife. This is for both your safety and theirs.
- Practice caution in thermal areas (and throughout the park!) Stay on boardwalks when traveling through thermal areas, do not swim in hot springs, and please do not throw objects into thermal features.
- Remember to stay bear aware. Keep all trash, food, and other scented items packed away, hike in groups of 3 or more, make noise, carry bear spray, and know how to use it.
- Check the forecast often because the weather can change quickly.
- Adhere to all signage posted in the park.
- Tread lightly to help preserve Yellowstone's natural resources.
Please follow the same principles if you choose to recreate on surrounding Forest Service lands.
We appreciate your dedication to our public lands and the workforce that is essential to keeping them intact.
