All closures and notices due to the Garred Road fire are officially fully lifted.

Garred Road Fire – Road Closure and Evacuation Update

Effective at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 25, all evacuation notices and road closures for the 2026 Garred Road Fire are cancelled. This includes road closures in adjoining Douglas County. Douglas County Sheriff's Office - Washington

GCSO Emergency Management appreciates the public’s cooperation during this major emergency. We are also grateful for all of the firefighters from across Washington who came to help protect our rural communities.

GCSO Emergency Management reminds the public that outdoor burning is banned in Grant County from June 1 through September 31. Accidental fires caused by people are a main cause of major wildfires each year in Grant County.

This concludes public emergency messaging regarding the 2026 Garred Road Fire.

As the sun rises on a beautiful morning over the Resort, we’d like to say Thanks—to God for protecting us, to all the local, regional, and state wildfire firefighters for battling flames in high heat and windy conditions, for local, county and state law enforcement for helping rapidly and safely evacuate the park, for our amazing staff including Steve Johanson and Aaron Claassen who are also volunteer firemen and stayed on duty all day and night, to Tammie, Goldye, Daphne and other office personnel who worked over 12 hours yesterday answering hundreds of messages and calls, to Jordan Ping for getting our reservations computers back online, to Lupe who was asking by 7 am yesterday if she and her crews could return to work to clean the cabins, to Tiffanie Claassen and Heidi Rushton for going through extensive Health Department protocols to clear the snack bar and store of potentially hazardous foods due to the extended power outage and having their departments ready to reopen by 1:30, to Audrey and Jeremy Long, Gunner, Jacob, Matt and all the other guys out attending to the grounds and assisting customers to recover their possessions, to Donna Yancy for coming in to reopen Vic Meyers golf course and all our other fantastic crew members who came in to help reopen and stood by to see where they could help, to Denis Felton State Parks manager, County Comissioner Rob Jones, and Sheriff Joey Kriete and others in emergency services and incident command for getting us accurate information we could share with you, to Eric Ping for running the Facebook communications page, and to all of our loyal customers, family, and friends for checking in and offering help, encouragement and love! We are truly grateful!

Photos taken by Jim Ping (owner) at about noon as he was evacuating Sun Lakes Yesterday. This was a very ominous sight for all of us. We love Sun Lakes with all of our hearts! We are so grateful to the local Fire departments for their quick action in helping save the place so many of us love! We are also very grateful for the state mobilized firefighters that halted the forward progress of the fire! The after photos were taken by a resident of Sun Lakes today! What a difference 24 hours makes!

Many of you are requesting status updates for Sun Lakes- Dry Falls State Park campground, which was also fully evacuated on Monday morning. The campground is open but due to their reservation system, they are only allowing you to book one night (Tuesday) at this time and they will know how they are moving forward on Wednesday. If you left stuff behind when evacuating, you are able to return and reclaim it. They appreciate your patience during the evacuation and subsequent reopening.

This is the updated post regarding the Garred Road Fire for those seeking more information. There is no damage to Sun Lakes Resort structures or property and we are reopen under Level 1 status.
