Craftsbury Outdoor Center

Craftsbury Outdoor Center The Craftsbury Outdoor Center Mission Dick and Judy promptly reformed the company as a non-profit organization with a new mission.
(858)

The Craftsbury Outdoor Center began in 1976 when Russell Spring and his family purchased the Cutler Academy campus and began remaking the facilities into lodging for guests and athletes. A Nordic trail network was cut on the land, with sculling and running camps founded shortly after, providing year round training and athletic opportunities in a beautiful natural setting. After over thirty years o

f growth and guidance under the Springs, the Center began a new chapter in its life in November 2008 when Dick Dreissigacker and Judy Geer purchased the Center. The mission of the Craftsbury Outdoor Center is:
to support and promote participation and excellence in lifelong sports with a special focus on rowing, nordic skiing, and running;
to use and teach sustainable practices; and
to protect and manage the surrounding land, lake and trails

Center memberships are available starting at $25 annually and afford holders a winter's worth of skiing, access to seasonal programming, rental discounts, eNewsletters with additional member opportunities, and much more to come - keep checking back as additional member opportunities grow. You can always be certain that your money is working to preserve the Center experience you love, no matter how you choose to experience it.

Another day, another fresh face to welcome to the Center: Dakota Jones will be our new Running Director. We first met Dakota when he hosted 2 sessions of his Footprints running camps here in 2023-24, and we were impressed by the way he integrated mission with sport. With Alanna Tucker stepping down, we’re excited to welcome Dakota back as a full-time member of the Center and to see what we’ll build together.

We’re happy to welcome Patrick O’Brien back to the ranks of the Craftsbury Ski Club, this time as the Assistant GRP Ski Coach. Pat, a native of Putney, VT, raced collegiately for Dartmouth before his stint as a professional ski racer with the Green Racing Project from 2010-2014.

While on the GRP, Pat competed in multiple World Cups and also became known to the Craftsbury community as a hardworking jack-of-all-trades with a deep love of skiing and the outdoors. Pat moved on from racing to become the head coach of the SMS T2 team from 2014-2022. Although he coached multiple athletes to international success, he’s most proud of the role he played in building a program that brought together athletes of all ages and rooted the team in its local community.

In recent years, Pat has supported various junior, college, and elite teams as a service technician, all while juggling a job as a builder and wrangling a growing young family. When not up to his eyeballs in ski wax or construction detritus, Pat can often be found outdoors with his wife Ida, who also has deep ties to Craftsbury, and their two kids. Welcome back, Pat!

While we've been waiting for the snow to melt and trails to dry out, we've been watching two dens of fox kits playing in the spring sunshine. Any feedback on this guy's running form?
