๐บ **Loner: The Spirit of Odell Lake** ๐ฒ
Some legends never leave us. โค๏ธ
Weโve shared Lonerโs story before, and weโll share it again, because some stories are simply too special to tell just once.
In 1998, an injured and starving wolf appeared in the woods behind Shelter Cove Resort. The Kielblocks, the resortโs owners at the time, took him in and nursed him back to health. Once recovered, Loner made Odell Lake his home.
He became a familiar friend to guests at Shelter Cove and the neighboring private cabins, greeting campers, accepting treats, befriending their dogs, and even joining hikers on the trails before quietly disappearing back into the forest. Gentle and easygoing, Loner was a free spirit who allowed only a select few people to touch him.
In 2005, Loner reportedly laid down and peacefully passed away during a hike with one of his beloved canine companions. Today, his memory is honored with a memorial plaque beneath the flagpole near our center fire.
For generations of Odell Lake visitors, Loner was more than a wolf. He was a friend, a trail companion, and a little piece of the wild that made this place unforgettable.
We wish we could have met him personally, but somehow, we feel his presence here every day. Weโll continue to honor his memory and share his story for years to come.
โค๏ธ **Were you lucky enough to have met Loner?** Weโd love to hear your memories of this very special member of the Shelter Cove family. Please share them in the comments below! ๐พ
