Experience gorgeous views from your own private piece of paradise in beautiful St Thomas, the US Virgin Islands. One bedroom, one bathroom and a full kitchen. Your cottage is surrounded by lush tropical plants & a short walk to Hull Bay Beach. PRIVATE tiki bar, pool, cabana, TV, outdoor sink, BBQ grill, pizza oven & fridge. Upstairs enjoy dining/lounging on your private balcony while watching the surfers catch waves. Fifteen minutes by car to Charlotte Amalia or Magen’s Bay Beach. Yes, we live in a world of credit cards, Apple Pay, and Venmo, but here in the Virgin Islands, there are still plenty of times when having good old-fashioned cash in your pocket can save the day!

At Two Tickets to Paradise Cottage, we love sharing the little things that make your island vacation easier. So before you board that plane, here’s what you should know!

🚕 TAXIS & SAFARI BUSES

Many of our island taxis and safari buses operate on cash only. Even if you’re planning to rent a vehicle, it’s always good to know this!

⛴️ FERRIES & CAR BARGES

Planning a day trip to St. John? Bring some cash! While some ferry operators accept credit cards, payment options vary, and you may encounter separate port or dock fees. Don’t forget to keep your round-trip receipt!

🏖️ BEACH VENDORS & BEACH CHAIRS

Some smaller beach vendors prefer cash, especially when renting chairs, umbrellas, or purchasing little extras throughout the day.

🍗 LOCAL FOOD STANDS & ROADSIDE VENDORS

One of the best parts of visiting St. Thomas is discovering those little roadside food stands, local BBQ spots, and fresh fruit vendors! Some accept cards, but others are cash only. Trust us, you don’t want to miss out on something delicious because you don’t have a few dollars handy!

🐠 EXCURSIONS & GRATUITIES

Heading out on a boat charter, snorkeling adventure, or fishing excursion? Bring cash to tip your captain and crew! The same goes for anyone providing you with wonderful service during your stay.

Shopping in downtown Charlotte Amalie? Most established stores accept credit cards, but smaller vendors and local artisans may prefer cash.

🌅🌴 Sometimes, paradise has a way of reminding you what really matters. 💕

Tonight, I stepped out onto the veranda at Two Tickets to Paradise Cottage, looked up at the sky, and just stood there for a moment.

No filters. No fancy camera. Just Mother Nature painting another masterpiece over our little piece of paradise. 💗💜

And it reminded me of something…

Life moves so fast. We’re always planning the next adventure, chasing the next goal, or worrying about tomorrow. Sometimes we forget to stop and appreciate the beautiful moments happening right in front of us.

The soft evening breeze, the sounds of the island settling in for the night, the twinkling lights below, and a sky that looks like it was painted just for you.

Sometimes it’s the little things our guests tell us that remind us just how important our job as your island hosts really is! ❤️

We recently had some wonderful guests check out of Two Tickets to Paradise Cottage, and during our conversation, they mentioned a few things they wished they had known BEFORE taking the car barge over to St. John for the day.

And we thought… you know what? These are exactly the kinds of things we should be sharing with our future guests!

So, let’s talk about taking your Jeep over to beautiful St. John! 🏝️

🚙 TIP #1 — BRING SOME CASH!

The car barge is approximately $80 round-trip, plus a small port fee. We recommend bringing cash, although payment options may vary by operator.

🎟️ TIP #2 — DON’T LOSE THAT RECEIPT!

If you purchase a round-trip ticket, hang on to it! You’ll need it for your return trip. And here’s something important: Your return ticket is valid with the SAME ferry company you traveled over with. Different barges operate on different schedules, so make sure you know which company you’re riding with!

⏰ TIP #3 — WATCH THE CLOCK!

Especially during peak season! St. John is a popular place, and those barges can get busy. Arrive early, check your return schedule, and give yourself plenty of time. You don’t want to be watching your ride back to St. Thomas sail away without you! 😂

📵 TIP #4 — YOUR PHONE MIGHT TAKE AN ISLAND VACATION TOO!

Cell service can be spotty in parts of St. John, especially when you’re exploring those beautiful winding roads.

Download an offline map or screenshot your directions before heading out.

🏝️☀️ BEACH DAY, ANYONE? Let’s Talk Secret Harbour! 🌊🍹

Here at Two Tickets to Paradise Cottage, we love sharing our favorite island adventures with you! And sometimes that means heading out to explore a beach we don’t talk about nearly enough!

🌴 Today, we’re taking you to SECRET HARBOUR! 🌴

We recently spent a day checking out this little slice of paradise so we could bring you the inside scoop. And friends, let us tell you… THIS BEACH IS BEAUTIFUL! 😍

But we learned a few things that will make your beach day even better!

🚙 TIP #1: THE EARLY BIRD GETS THE PARKING SPOT!

Here’s the biggest secret about Secret Harbour. There are only THREE designated public beach parking spots! Yes, THREE! So our advice? Get there EARLY! Trust us, this is one beach worth setting your alarm for!

🌴 TIP #2: HEAD LEFT FOR THE PERFECT BEACH SPOT!

Once you hit the sand, make your way all the way over to the LEFT with your beach chairs. You’ll find some wonderful shade trees where you can settle in, relax, and spend the day enjoying those gorgeous turquoise waters and beautiful light-colored sand.

There’s just something about sitting under a shade tree, listening to the gentle waves, and remembering that you’re on ISLAND TIME! 💙

🍳 TIP #3: BREAKFAST ON THE BEACH!

There is a restaurant right there at Secret Harbour where you can enjoy breakfast or lunch!

Or do what we did! We packed breakfast to go, headed out early, claimed our shady little spot, and enjoyed breakfast with one heck of a Caribbean view!

🍕🍔 TIP #4: DON’T SKIP LUNCH OR THE FROZEN DRINKS! 🍹

When lunchtime rolls around, head over to the beach bar and restaurant!

We’re talking pizza, burgers, a delicious black bean hummus, and plenty of tasty choices to satisfy that beach-day appetite.

And can we talk about the FROZEN DRINKS?! 😋🍹

Highly recommend treating yourself to something cold, tropical, and delicious. After all, you’re on vacation!

🌊 TIP #5: DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

Seriously! Some beach days are meant for exploring, and others are meant for finding that perfect shady spot, dipping your toes in the Caribbean Sea, enjoying a good lunch, and letting the hours drift by.

Secret Harbour is one of those beaches. ❤️

And that’s exactly what we love about St. Thomas. Every beach has its own personality, and sometimes the ones you don’t hear about as often turn out to be some of your favorites!
