Montgomery Homestead Bed and Breakfast

Montgomery Homestead Bed and Breakfast This is the Bed and Breakfast we owned from 2003-2019.

FB keeps reminding me that I need to post something on this page. Many of you know that Gaines and I sold the Montgomery Homestead in February. We had operated the inn since 2003. So many new friends were made and so many wonderful adventures happened while we were in Damascus. We made so many great friends and we miss them greatly. But, it was time to move back to Georgia, to be near 5 of our grandchildren and 3 of our children. We have more time now for travel and have already been to the Memphis and New Orleans areas to visit the other children and grandchildren. Damascus is a most wonderful place. I think I could really say it is my most favorite place in the whole world! We will be back for a visit before long!

Facebook keeps reminding me that I have not written anything on here for awhile! As I have shared before, Gaines and I are not operating the Bed and Breakfast anymore. We are living here until this beautiful, historical home sells. I loved meeting all the people who came my way during the 15 years that we had the B and B. If you know of anyone who would like to own a B and B, or just live in the "friendliest town on the Appalachian Trail", just let me know.
I miss having all the new people to talk to. On Saturdays, I take Emily Jane's Medallions to our local Farmer's Market. That serves a double purpose: selling her medallions and meeting the visitors who have come to explore our wonderful little town.
I have seen a few leaves starting to turn color but it is still very hot and summer like. No matter what the weather, or the season, Damascus is a place like no other..a place that I have truly enjoyed calling "home" since 2003! Come see me!

Happy Hiking! There are so many Thru Hikers passing by our house. This is the first time in 15 years that I have not had guests in our home. I miss talking to the hikers and hearing their stories. As many of you know, our home has become a private residence for my husband and me. At this time, I am trying to recover from a total knee replacement. When I have recovered a little more, we are going to put the Montgomery Homestead up for sale. As you know, it is located on Laurel Ave. in downtown Damascus. If you would like to own an inn or just live in the Heart of Damascus, contact me. We have had such a great time hosting hikers and bikers all these years. It is now time to enter the next season of life. We are blessed with 13 grandchildren who range in age from 13 to 5 months. We want to be able to spend more time with them. Happy Trails and let me know if you would like to own one of the most beautiful homes in the historic district of Damascus!

The sun is shining and it is a beautiful day in Damascus. Even though the Montgomery Homestead is now just a private home for my husband and me, I have decided to keep this page active. When I quit having a B and B in January, I closed my web page. Well, I have heard from two former guests who wanted to contact me...so they did through this FB page.
A few hikers have arrived in Damascus. I have heard that a lot of hikers have already signed in at Amicalola and started their AT hike! The journey begins!

"To everything there is a season". February 2003 was when I started my adventure as an innkeeper in Damascus, Va. Wow! I could write a book and it would be exciting, telling of the adventures we have had at the Montgomery Homestead. There is no place I had rather be than Damascus, Va., the "friendliest town on the Appalachian Trail!"
My husband and I have made a really big decision. We are now living at the Montgomery Homestead and it is no longer an inn...no more out of town guests. Even though we are not taking in guests, we would still like for you to come "sit a spell" on the front porch. We enjoy hearing your stories and meeting new people who have come to visit our dear little town. We would love to see some of the former guests that have stayed here.
I just wanted to let you know what is going on. We now have 13 grandchildren from the oldest at age 13 down to the youngest who is 3 months. We want to be able to spend more time visiting them.
I have heard that the average innkeeper lasts 7 years. Well, we doubled that and a little more. It has been a great adventure and we have met some of them most wonderful people. Follow your dream! I did and it has been great. Come see us!

We have beautiful yellow leaves all over the yard. We have had a variety of guests this week. The Appalachian Long Distance hikers had a gathering in Abingdon and one of my special hiking friends stayed at the inn. I have had return guests from Florida that have come to bike and hike the Virginia Creeper Trail. Two men who are doctors have come to section hike the AT. One of them even brought me apple cider from his apple trees in Ohio. A young man from Louisiana has come to do "Trail Magic" for the southbound hikers who started in Maine and are headed to Ga. It is like a bee hive of activity here with people hiking , biking and walking our trails. If you have not visited Damascus, you missing the most special place in America!

Make sure you come by the Farmer's Market in Damascus on Saturday. I will be selling AT medallions for my granddaughter,...

I just checked in a guest who has come to run in a race sponsored by Yetti. The race is for 100 miles..on foot! He said they will get a shuttle at 7 am in the morning up to White Top mountain. They will run approximately 34 miles to Abingdon, back to White Top and then to Abingdon again!!! How does a person do that?

Hello, this is Susie, the owner of the Montgomery Homestead Inn in downtown Damascus. I just talked to a hiker and he suggested I share the following information. Yes, my inn is for sale but I am still taking guests. I will continue to welcome guests until the day of closing. I don't have a contract on the house so that could be awhile. So, if you would like to own one of the prettiest homes in the friendliest town on the Appalachian Trail or if you need a room for the night, just let me know. Have a great day!

My sister and several of her friends from North Georgia came to visit this week. They were really excited about finding some of the rocks that Damascus residents have painted and hidden. Also, we went to the Smyth County Jam in Chilhowie last night to her Bluegrass Music.

Damascus is full! So many wet and cold hikers in town. We have an international group of guests at Montgomery Inn. I have guests from England, Australia, Germany and Arkansas! Suzanne Bullard wish you were here!

I cannot believe it is almost time for Trail Days. The Trail Days shirts are already for sale at The town hall. So many hikers are already in town. I have the nicest guests stay at my inn. This really is the friendliest town . If you are in town on Saturday mornings, make sure you go visit the Farmer's Market which is located at a Tim Brown's car lot.
