TRUTH TIME. I donβt usually talk about this, but thought I would in this post:
I've always been outspoken in my personal life, but as of 6 years ago, I had not integrated activism on the Your Alpaca Cottage website and social media. At the time, I thought I was doing enough. I donate to the ACLU, Lambda Legal, Planned Parenthood, am a long-standing member of the NAACP, and support political candidates and organizations which fight for equity & justice. I march in protests and write countless emails demanding justice. Combined with these actions, I thought being kind, speaking up, and living the way I do was enough. It is not. Let me say it again, It. Is. Not. Enough. Sure, these actions are important, necessary & helpful, but I was missing a key part of activism.

βWhat was I missing? For all I thought I was an activist and ally, I had some pretty glaring blind spots. I wasn't using my voice and privilege as effectively as I could. Most of y'all followed me for fun content about Alpacas, chickens, gardens, and and my Airbnb guest cottage, but I WASN'T letting you know where I stand as a business. That's important because when I spend money, I want to know about the businesses I support. Further, the revenue from the business helps support our rescue and adopted Alpacas and I want you to feel good not only about supporting the animals, but also about a business that works towards the good in our country.

These days, I speak up and make it abundantly clear that racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia etc. don't fly at Your Alpaca Cottage. Our Mission Statement and Airbnb listing reflect this and are an important part of guiding the decisions I make as a business owner. Moreover, I want to share this with you alongside the Alpacas and Llamas and chickens and gardens, because the joy of them is a happy spot during tough times. ππ¦β¨
Those of you who follow Your Alpaca Cottage know there is a lot of heart here. I believe in kindness, compassion, equity, and justice. Alpacas, Airbnbs & Activism ~ it just makes sense.
How about you ~Β do you make choices to support businesses who support the causes you believe in?
