As construction continues upstairs on the guest suites at The Delta House Inn, we are developing new recipes for our menu and they are TOO GOOD to keep to ourselves! My tours of the house usually last about 30 minutes, chock full of stories of my vision and the history of the building. Today, the vision looks a little clearer because the contractor finished the framing. Here is a 26-second, COVID-friendly tour of the guest staircase and guest suites and common areas (game room, library, kitchen, and speakeasy) on the top two floors.

This was a great weekend of getting things accomplished! I am blessed to have my own crew of 12-18 family and friends who were here for three days to get things started and help with the move-in (nothing like living in a construction zone!). Here is the new master bedroom (expanded to its original 1912 dimensions when it was a dining room serving 24 fraternity brothers around one table), the beginning of the new private guest entrance, and the continuing wallpaper removal saga.

I found this little gem. Postmarked March 3. 1913 (a few months after the house was built). “Dear Marie, Recieved your letter O.K. some time ago. Will answer it with a card. I suppose you remember this building. A week from today is my birthday. Think I will be 17. Seen Mary R. today. Heard Billy Sunday while here. Will close still remaining your friend, Joe.” If these walls could talk! It was mailed to Miss Marie Schaffer, 1094 Say Avenue, Columbus, Ohio (current photo of that house below).

Morgan and Judy Burgess, the previous owners of the house, had commissioned a pen and ink drawing of the residence. I’m re-framing this beautiful work and it will hang above one of the fireplaces. What a talented artist! (P. Gegner, 1993)
