The Research Lodge of Colorado was chartered in 1953 by the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Colorado (A.F. & A.M.). No degree work is conferred.

Research lodges differ from regular Masonic lodges in that they are devoted to study and scholarship of Freemasonry and associated topics. Research Lodge of Colorado was founded in 1953 as a forum of shared insight regarding the rich and compelling history of Freemasonry in Colorado and worldwide. Our mission is to explore and discuss subjects of interest to Masons; always searching for Further Light! Research Lodge of Colorado is open exclusively to regular Master Masons in good standing, already affiliated with another Lodge. Annual dues are $33. Affiliation fee is $15. Petition for membership can be found here: https://www.rlcolo.org/about-us

Research Lodge of Colorado meets four times a year, on the last Saturday in January, April, July, and October.

Attention Brothers: due to unforeseen circumstances we have changed the date of our last meeting of the year. It will be held the following Saturday, October 31st at 2:00 pm.

09/28/2026

Open invitation to all Master Masons:
Please join us at Research Lodge of Colorado for our last meeting of the year, October 24th. We will open Lodge at 2:00 p.m. followed by a presentation by W.B. Chris Advincula from Union Lodge #7.
The topic will be the Quatuor Coronati. The world’s premier Masonic research lodge.
Established in 1884 and consecrated in 1886 in London, U.K., its founders adopted an evidence-based approach to Masonic history that replaced the more imaginative writings of earlier authors; it became known as the ‘authentic school’ of Masonic research.

Please R.S.V.P. as we will serve dinner and refreshments.

Fraternally,

Worshipful Master

This scene teaches one of alchemy’s most important lessons: awakening must be mastered. The winged solar figure rising from the vessel represents a new light or power that has been born through the Work, but it is still free, unstable and able to escape. The woman marked by the crescent Moon represents the lunar force, and her bow shows the need for focus, discipline and control. She aims toward the solar being because the alchemist must learn how to capture, hold and stabilize what has been awakened. In simple terms, the art is saying that discovering your inner light is only the beginning. Real transformation happens when that light becomes steady enough to shape the way you think, act and live.

Figurative Meaning: The Romans used the word metaphorically to describe a source of anxiety, doubt, or uneasiness—much like the nagging, uncomfortable feeling of having a sharp pebble stuck inside your shoe while walking.
This root evolved into modern English words like scruple (a feeling of doubt or hesitation regarding morality).

Thelema is a Western esoteric and occult social and spiritual philosophy. It was founded in the early 1900s by Aleister Crowley, an English occultist, and ceremonial magician. Central to Thelema is the concept of discovering and following one's True Will, a divine and individual purpose that transcends ordinary desires.

Crowley's system begins with The Book of the Law, a text that outlines key principles, including the axioms "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law" and "love is the law, love under will", emphasizing personal freedom and the pursuit of one's true path.

Crowley believed that discovering and following one's True Will is the path to self-realization and personal fulfillment, often referred to as the Great Work.

“The Old Sea Captain” is a symbolic retelling of the Masonic legend of the Wayfaring Man and the encounter with the three ruffians. Beneath the nautical language is a deeper lesson about the search for Light, the importance of honor, and the danger of those who seek selfish gain over truth and virtue.

The “Wayfaring Man” represents every Mason on his journey through life — traveling East in pursuit of wisdom, knowledge, and moral improvement. The three ruffians symbolize greed, impatience, and betrayal, standing in contrast to the values Masonry teaches: integrity, brotherhood, and fidelity.

One of the most powerful lines in the poem is the ending:

“I know not who my friends may be
Unless they travel EAST.”

A reminder that true friendship and brotherhood are found among those who seek the same Light, walk uprightly, and remain faithful to their obligations. 🔹⚓📖
