Updates so far...also, if anyone has any tips for us as we head down into Utah we'd appreciate any input 🙋🏼♀️♥️
Badlands was amazing, and if you go, I would definitely recommend staying on the wall!! Waking up to those views was a highlight so far for all of us.✅
Black Hills was such a great stop! We stayed in the town of Custer at Big Pine Campground, and we really enjoyed that location. It felt central to all the sights we wanted to hit — Needles Highway, Wildlife Loop, Sylvan Lake, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and the Mammoth site. Sylvan Lake was my personal favorite in this area. It almost felt like a Caribbean island tucked into the mountains😍😯
Yellowstone is massive! 🤣 We had originally planned to do dispersed camping outside the park, but the night before we arrived, we decided to book a site inside the park at Fishing Bridge. I’m so thankful they had one open! With all the driving we were already doing just sightseeing, we were really glad to have a central landing spot instead of driving in and out of the park each day.
We made the most of our 3 days in Yellowstone:
Day 1: Mud Volcano, Hayden Valley drive, and Canyon waterfalls — loved all of these!
Day 2: Toured the west side and checked out the geysers, starting at Thumb Geyser and ending at Norris. Norris Geyser Basin was our favorite, but the overlook and walking around Grand Prismatic were spectacular.
Day 3: Took chairs to a pretty spot in Hayden Valley to read, slow down, and enjoy the scenery.
I’ll also post soon about some of our challenges so far, because we’ve definitely had some. 🤪
I’m also planning to share a video and/or pictures of how we have the camper set up for a trip this long. It has been sooo doable — even with 6 of us! I’d love to encourage anyone who feels hesitant about being in a camper this long that it really can be comfortable. Sometimes you just have to dive in and do it!
