This nor’easter is affecting different parts of the Outer Banks in very different ways, and we know many of you are watching conditions closely or reconsidering travel plans.
Here in Duck, The Sanderling is open and operating normally. Roads to the northern Outer Banks remain accessible at this time, but strong winds, high surf, and coastal flooding are still affecting the area. A Wind Advisory and Coastal Flood Advisory remain in effect for the northern Outer Banks, and conditions can change quickly.
Farther south, Hatteras Island remains under a mandatory visitor evacuation and is not currently accessible to non-resident visitors. Ocracoke is also inaccessible at this time due to suspended ferry service.
If you are scheduled to visit us, please check current road conditions before traveling and contact our team with any questions about your stay. We encourage everyone to follow guidance from Dare County Emergency Management, NCDOT, and the National Weather Service, and never drive through standing water or around a road closure.
If your Outer Banks plans have been disrupted, our reservations team would be happy to help you consider a stay with us once conditions make travel appropriate. Please call ahead before setting out for Duck.
Take care of yourselves and one another. We’ll continue to keep a close eye on this storm and share updates as conditions change.
