WARNING PARENTS: We are seeing an increase in children riding e-scooters. Most are not wearing any safety equipment and not watching out for vehicles or pedestrians. Are E-scooters Safe for Kids?
E-scooters are not considered safe for kids. Research shows that e-scooters can be more dangerous than regular scooters. They cause a higher number of injuries (and more sever ones) and deaths than regular scooters. One reason is that they travel at much higher speeds.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission says that e-scooters are not recommended for kids younger than age 9.
For kids ages 9 to 12, they should not operate anything that travels faster than 10 mph, as higher speeds are linked to injuries. Since most e-scooters can reach speeds much higher than this, it’s not a good idea for kids this age to ride e-scooters, either.
We want the kids to enjoy their summer, but we don't want them hurt. Parents, please supervise the young kids especially when riding around the park.
