"The Cape Cod of the Midwest". Now, I've been to Cape Cod; and the comparison isn't exactly ... the same.

No one has been bitten - or killed by a shark at Tawas Point. In fact, feel free to swim anytime in Lake Huron without worrying about those - or jellyfish - or, well, pretty much any harmful to human aquatic life.

The journey to the tip of the peninsula is far less of a commitment at Tawas Point. And the 60+ mile drive to the tip of Cape Cod is mostly without any views of the ocean - and lots of traffic. A 3 mile bike ride from US-23 to the state park gets you to Tawas Point State Park.

Coming by car? No bumper-to-bumper traffic here. Watch out for wildlife crossing in front of you.

Speaking of traffic and people, at Tawas Point you probably can find a stretch of beach all to yourself most any time of year.

Don't get me wrong - I'm hoping to get back to Cape Cod someday. It has its draw.

But I count myself super lucky to have a cottage just outside of the gates to Tawas Point State Park. It's not a watered down version of Cape Cod, as the analogy might suggest - but a jewel all of its own, to be experienced on the "sunrise side" of Michigan.

What memories are made of - cinnamon and sugar and smells of bread baking. We try to get to Connie's Cafe when we are at our cottage (and we tell everyone who rents our place to go). My youngest gets the XL cinnamon roll, always.

He had a day off school recently and wanted to bake. Guess what we made???

If you haven't make the trek to Connies for a large cinnamon roll, you should. Or just make one. :-)

🍁Autumn in East Tawas 🍁

It feels slower, crisp, and invigorating. Enjoy solitary walks over the dunes, enjoying Lake Huron and Tawas Bay. Bike or drive the 3 miles into town for a meal, shopping, even a movie. Maybe even 🍦

Bareboat Bungalow allows you to walk to the state park and enjoy all of the splendor, with a cozy spot to return to.

With 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom - we've welcomed couples, families, girls weekends, remote workers (great internet!) and their dog(s) as we rent out our second home when we aren't there (which is often since we have kids going in every direction - and we have to drive them there. 😂)

We have some October dates available. 2.5 hours from Ann Arbor, similar from Detroit, if you haven't been to East Tawas, come enjoy the splendor of the "cape cod of the midwest"

I love to share this story and gorgeous pic! 💍Four years ago today, our oldest and his bride "eloped" following their wedding being Covid-canceled earlier the same year. The 6 of us in our quarantined household stayed at our cottage on the Point and before sunrise headed out to Tawas Point State Park - they exchanged vows as the sun broke over the horizon. It wasn't the wedding they had planned for, but special none the less.

Hope this brightens your day! Its another reason we love our cottage and the Point.

Staying in East Tawas? We love to eat Even picky eaters like my "only cheese pizza" kiddo can find something they enjoy. And Momma can enjoy some wine! Check'um out while staying in town.

A short drive from our vacation rental home is one of our "go to" fun spots our kids always want to head back to - that Hubie's Wondergolf !! We have a great time playing minigolf and building memories as a family.

We highly recommend Hubies for a fun activity while visiting East Tawas and staying at our place.
