If youโ€™ve never experienced fall in Estes Park during the elk rut, youโ€™re missing one of the most magical times of the year. The sound of bull elk bugling echoes through the valley, the aspens turn brilliant shades of gold, and the mountains put on a show that never gets old.

This video was taken on the Estes Park 18-Hole Golf Course, one of the elkโ€™s favorite gathering spots each fall. Watching these incredible animals up close while surrounded by golden leaves is something youโ€™ll never forget.

Many locals consider late September through early October their favorite season. The weekdays are especially wonderful, with a little more breathing room to enjoy the trails, wildlife viewing, downtown shops, and beautiful mountain scenery. Weekends can be very busy, but the energy and excitement of fall make it a special time to visit.

๐ŸŒŒ Keep an eye on the sky tonight!

Forecasters are calling for increased aurora activity, which means there is a possibility the Northern Lights could make an appearance over Colorado. While nothing is guaranteed, nights like this always make us a little excited to look up. โœจ

These photos are from the incredible display we were lucky enough to see last November. Watching the sky dance with color over the mountains was something weโ€™ll never forget.

If youโ€™re visiting Estes Park tonight, bundle up, head somewhere with a clear view of the northern horizon, and see what happens. Even if the lights donโ€™t show, an evening under the stars in the Rockies is never a bad way to spend the night. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ”๏ธ

We love the waterfalls, rushing streams, and peaceful trails found throughout this beautiful corner of the park. Thereโ€™s something special about an early morning hike, watching the sun light up the mountains and hearing nothing but the water flowing nearby.

Alpine Visitor Center is now open for the 2026 summer season.

Located in Rocky Mountain National Park along Trail Ridge Road at the top of Fall River Pass, the visitor center is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather and conditions permitting.

Alpine Visitor Center sits at 11,796 feet above sea level. This is the highest elevation visitor center in the National Park System. Stop by and learn more about plants and wildlife that live in the land above trees - the alpine tundra.

Timed Entry Reservations are required for Trail Ridge Road from 9 am to 2 pm. Trail Ridge Store is currently closed to all uses. Visitors must adhere to any barricades. ๐•๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐ฌ ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐š๐ง๐ฒ ๐œ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž ๐š๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ฌ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐›๐ž ๐œ๐ข๐ญ๐ž๐.
