It was so fun to host the Board of Directors meeting this past weekend. There was so much energy as the board members brought their families to the inn from around the region for meetings, dinners, and of course an ice cream social with the Rockside students at . Perfect Fall weather made for a perfect weekend.

One of our guests recently asked me if it was ok for her to set up her tripod to take pictures in the evening of our local herd of deer. Most mornings and evenings (and most afternoons too) the dear make themselves at home on our grounds. They’re really part of the inn, and their constant presence serves as a useful reminder that the border between nature and civilization is permeable.

Ever since we renovated and re-opened the Inn, neighbors and locals have told us that back in the place’s heyday it was home to the most beautiful weddings! This summer, we had the joy of opening up the Bluebird for weddings once again! It has been a beautiful experience, a double-honor to both contribute the most important day for some wonderful couples AND to revive the legacy of this beautiful little place.

Hiker Spotlight! When Anne-Claire and John arrived in Etna, they were pleasantly surprised at how much it reminded them of their hometown in Plumas County, CA. After years working around the world with relief organization, Anne-Claire shared with us that she’s noticed it’s often those who have the least who are the most generous and joyful. As they pack up the few things they can carry with them and get back out to the wilderness, they are taking a loaf of bread from to share along the trail. Safe travels friends!

Hiker Spotlight! Anne-Claire and John are hiking the PCT, and they when they got to Etna, they were pleasantly surprised at how much it reminded them of their home town in Plumas County, CA. One of the great joys of inn-keeping near the Pacific Crest Trail is getting to provide a home-away-from-home for PCT hikers. From Pittsburgh to Paris, Texas to Taiwan, brave souls flock from around the globe to trek up the entire West Coast of the United States. And we are lucky that a few of them choose to stay with us in our Hikers Hut to rest, resupply, and share their joy with our little community.
