A very fond farewell,
It is with full hearts and much gratitude, that Jerome and I hosted our final weekend, made our last breakfasts for guests and said goodbye to some wonderful people—so representative of the many have come to stay with us here At Willow Pond B&B over the last 10 years. We have come to love this business more than we could have imagined, and it has been because of you, the many lovely people who have come to stay. We have met people not just from our great state, but from all around our country and all over the world. So many times we have turned to each other, Jerome and I, and said some version of “They were such nice people!”. Our lives have been enriched from getting to know all of you.
Jerome had been in business for many years before I came along, so it was nothing new to him to start another one, but it was totally out of my comfort zone, having just been an educator before this. It has been such a pleasure to me, to find success at this venture on so many levels, but most importantly, at making people happy, comfortable and at home in our home. We’ve shared so many stories, so much laughter, so many hugs, prayers and even tears, as our guests have expressed what it has meant to them “get away to the country” to find the peace and tranquility, acceptance, rest and respite from their busy lives, here at our little slice of heaven.
We are going to miss this business, all of you wonderful people and the beautiful home we created from the scrubby field we began with. We both take pride in what we have accomplished here. We look forward now though, with excitement, to the next stage of our lives, my new teaching job, and our new (and much smaller) home, that we will make a place we will love just as much as this one. We will carry our memories of all of you and of At Willow Pond with us as we move on. Thank you all, so very much! ~ Claire and Jerome

First time I can remember having an all guy breakfast table! These fellas are all headed to Grattan Raceway, for a day at the track. Just a simple breakfast was requested, so scrambled eggs and sausage patties, homemade biscuits and honey, fresh cantaloupe and blueberries tossed with a minted simple syrup.

Last thing before check-ins, fresh flowers in the guest rooms. Long faces on our guests when they walked in though, they saw the for sale sign (sold). They hadn’t realized we were closing! Bob (a regular return guest) and Roger leave their wives behind and go to the race track in Grattan. They’re glad they got in one last stay. We love talking to these guys!

So sad, a wedding was canceled at the last minute, so guests for the Sunrise Suite (wedding guests) canceled their trip. That leaves our very nicest room open this weekend, on the very popular Danish Festival weekend in Greenville, AND.....our very last weekend in business before At Willow Pond B&B closes it's doors to guests! Call if you would like to snap up the Sunrise Suite for this weekend. 989.248.3150. atwillowpond.com

Today’s moment of nature from down at the pond. I was watching a little cloud of half inch catfish babies, with the mother hovering around, tending to them. But as soon as she felt any danger, off she darted! Some mama!

The perfect Monday morning breakfast for the folks who decided the weekend was just not enough time and could they stay one more day please. Peach-berry parfaits with vanilla Greek yogurt and my homemade granola, lemon zucchini muffins and pretty hard boiled eggs. atwillowpond.com

Just watching dueling hummingbirds outside the kitchen window, in a dispute over who has rights to that hummingbird feeder I think. atwillowpond.com

Fresh blueberries with my homemade lemon curd, zucchini bread, and a straight from the garden frittata, full of good veggies and herbs made our guests from Puerto Rico very happy this morning. They were just the loveliest, warmest, people, reminding us once again why we have enjoyed this business so much. atwillowpond.com

Look who I found taking advantage of all the early drops under the Apple tree this morning. Triplets and their mama! You can just faintly see the spots on the fawns, that are fading fast. I’m on the porch so I don’t scare them away, so they are pretty far away. I’ll post a couple of closer pics in the comments. atwillowpond.com

You have to be careful, when cutting flowers for the guest rooms, not to bring any bees inside. I had one that kept buzzing around the flowers already in my hands, trying to get just one more sip! atwillowpond.com
