Spotted lanternfly lay egg masses on trees and other smooth outdoor surfaces such as outdoor furniture, campers, and grills. The egg masses are white when fresh and dry to a mud-like consistency. To prevent large quantities of spotted lanternfly hatching in the spring, it is vital to check for egg masses and destroy them. If you find an egg mass, use a stiff card (similar to a credit card) or a putty knife to scrape the egg mass into a Ziploc bag or other disposable container. To ensure the eggs are destroyed, add rubbing alcohol or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Then, seal the bag or container and discard it.
