Late October might be the best stretch of the whole year to bring the rig out, cool nights, easy days, and hardly a bug to complain about.

Full hookup back in and pull through sites are still open at Okefenokee Pastimes Cabins and Campground, right at the main gate of Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. Highway 121, main gate of Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, Folkston, Georgia.

Nobody quite prepares you for how loud this swamp gets once the sun is all the way down. Owls calling back and forth across the water, frogs winding up into a full chorus, and every so often a splash close enough that you double check
your flashlight is working.

It is the best kind of spooky, the honest kind, no decorations required.

Wait until you see what one of our guests photographed from our campground. 🤩🌌

That glowing red bubble is the Bubble Nebula, the focus of this incredible photo. It’s about 7,000 light-years away in the constellation Cassiopeia, a shell of gas blown out by a single massive star. You can even spot a sparkling star cluster near the top of the frame.

All of this was captured under our dark Okefenokee skies about a week ago.

Tonight is the Full Hunter's Moon, named generations ago for the light it gave folks finishing the last of the harvest and getting the hunting season underway before winter settled in.

Out here at Okefenokee Pastimes Cabins and Campground, it means the stargazing field will be bright enough tonight that you could walk it without a flashlight, that big moon climbing slow over the cypress. Highway 121, main gate of Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, Folkston, Georgia.

Last Sunday of October already, and everybody at the campground is moving a little slower than they do back home. 🍂

Morning light through the trees, a picnic table with your name on it, and a whole day with nowhere you have to be. That’s a Sunday at Okefenokee Pastimes Cabins and Campground.
