Symbolism Sunday!
The Sprig of Acacia: Immortality, Integrity, and the Enduring Spirit

This evergreen speaks to fundamental truths about life, death, and moral endurance.

Thriving in harsh, desert terrain where little else can survive, the acacia never appears dead. It serves as a visual reminder of the eternal part of our being that outlasts our mortal vessel, surviving the physical grave and returning to the Grand Architect who gave it.

From the Greek meaning "innocence", acacia tells every Mason to walk with pure motives, unstained character, and genuine benevolence toward all humankind.

In the Bible, acacia (or sh*ttim wood) was chosen to build the Ark of the Covenant because of its remarkable resistance to decay. It stands as an enduring emblem of unbroken trust, reminding us to hold fast to our integrity even when sorely tested.

Throwback Thursday to 1869!

Kentucky Past Grand Master Rob Morris was not only the the Masonic Poet Laureate but also the founder of the Order of the Eastern Star AND he once held a meeting deep beneath the Old City of Jerusalem.

In the spring of 1868, Brother Morris traveled to the Ottoman-controlled Holy Land on a mission to research the ancient roots of the Craft. While there, he gathered a small group of traveling Masons from locals to British Naval officers. They on May 13, 1868, the Brothers slipped into Zedekiah’s Cave AKA King Solomon’s Quarries.

In the limestone caverns where tradition holds the stones for the First Temple were taken, Morris and his companions opened an informal "Moot Lodge" by candlelight. That clandestine subterranean gathering laid the groundwork for Royal Solomon Mother Lodge No. 293, later chartered in 1873 as the first regular Masonic lodge established in the modern Holy Land.

It's Inside The Lodge Tuesday and we're going back to London (not the real one in Kentucky, the one in England).

Imagine knocking down a hotel drywall and discovering an opulent, forgotten Masonic temple untouched for decades…That’s exactly what happened in the late 1990s at London's Great Eastern Hotel (now the Andaz London Liverpool Street)!

During a renovation, contractors studying original Victorian architectural plans noticed a bizarre, unexplained "dead space" behind a hallway wall.

They took a sledgehammer to the drywall—and stepped straight into an immaculate, windowless Edwardian Grecian Masonic Temple built in 1912.

Sometime mid-century, hotel management had simply erected partition walls across the entrance, wiped the room off the floor plans, and completely forgotten about it. Behind the drywall, preserved in pitch darkness, stood:

12 types of rare Italian marble framing soaring columns and hand-carved thrones.

A radiant sky-blue concave dome encircled by gilded Zodiac constellations and a golden sunburst.

A pristine black-and-white tessellated pavement completely untouched by foot traffic for half a century.

Today, this hidden gem is a listed British landmark.

Throwback Thursday to 1778...Paris (the one in France, not Kentucky).
In April 1778, at the age of 83, the great French philosopher Voltaire joined Freemasonry at the famed Paris lodge "Les Neuf Sœurs" (The Nine Sisters). Escorting him into the lodge room was none other than Brother Benjamin Franklin.

A year later, Franklin was elected Venerable Master of the lodge.

Two of history’s greatest champions of reason and liberty, united in the Craft.

For Inside the Lodge Tuesday we go to Oregon!

Brothers there have turned a turned an ancient, natural basalt lava tube that stretches over 3,000 feed into the earth into a lodge.

It's Malheur Cave, located in high desert country near Burns, Oregon!

Here are a few things that make this meeting place truly one of a kind:

The Gate in the Rock: The cave entrance is secured by a custom wrought-iron gate set directly into the volcanic stone, prominently displaying the Square and Compasses to greet visitors.

Subterranean Seating: Inside the cavern, wooden bleachers and rough-hewn timber officer stations are permanently arranged along the stone floor.

Degrees by Lantern Light: Every year, Masons from all over travel here to hold an outdoor/underground tiled communication beneath hundreds of feet of solid volcanic rock—echoing the ancient traditions of stonecutters meeting in secluded valleys and hills.

The Hidden Lake: Deep beyond the meeting chamber lies a crystal-clear, subterranean underground lake where the cave ceiling gradually touches the water.

Freemasonry isn't defined by the building—it lives in the brotherhood that gathers within it.

Happy ! 🏛️🇦🇺✨

Today we’re heading Down Under to Freemasons Hall on North Terrace in Adelaide, South Australia! Here's their foyer set up for their candlelight music series.

Did you know that South Australian Freemasonry actually started before the colony itself? In 1834, the first lodge was consecrated in London, and its warrant sailed across the globe before South Australia was even officially proclaimed. Decades later in 1884, South Australia established the very first independent Grand Lodge in Australia.

Completed in 1927, this monumental Classical temple blends the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian orders. Inside on the fourth floor sits the Way Room—a grand ceremonial chamber named after inaugural Grand Master and Chief Justice Sir Samuel Way, complete with soaring columns and a vintage pipe organ.

Symbolism Sunday!

In Freemasonry, St. John the Evangelist serves as a timeless patron of brotherly love, philosophical light, and spiritual contemplation. Flanking the circle alongside St. John the Baptist, his emblem teaches balance—reminding every Mason to temper passion with reason and to let charity guide every endeavor.

We seek the Light, but we preserve it through love. 🏛️✨

It's Throwback Thursday and we go back to 1943!
Seven Belgian Freemasons imprisoned in Hut 6 of the Esterwegen concentration camp secretly established a lodge called "Liberté chérie" (Cherished Liberty).
They met around a table used for sorting am******on while other inmates stood guard, they held regular communications and even initiated a new candidate under the noses of the SS.
It's a powerful testament to the idea that brotherly love and freedom of thought cannot be extinguished by tyranny.

Symbolism Sunday!
Because it's harvest time, today is the Sheaf of Corn, a symbol of divine abundance, the result of what we cultivated earlier in the year.

As the leaves turn and the season shifts toward winter, take stock of your own field. What virtues have you cultivated this year, and how are you sharing your harvest with those around you?
