Heading into the Blue Ridge or the Smokies? Mountain driving is a whole different ballgame for your RV. Before you hit those winding mountain roads to Highlands or Wayah Bald, here are our top tips to keep your rig, and your family safe:

✅ Check your brake fluid and brake wear BEFORE you go
✅ Downshift early on descents - don't ride the brakes
✅ Know your rig's height clearance (many mountain tunnels and bridges have low clearances)
✅ Keep your fuel tank above half - mountain grades eat fuel fast
✅ Allow extra time - scenic drives are meant to be SLOW and enjoyed!

If you haven't hiked to Wayah Bald Lookout Tower yet, put it at the TOP of your list! At 5,342 feet elevation, the restored stone tower offers some of the most breathtaking panoramic views in all of Western North Carolina. On a clear day you can see for miles across wave after wave of mountain ridges. 🏔️ The hike is about 4 miles roundtrip and is accessible right off Wayah Road, just 18 miles from Franklin. Go early morning for the best views and fewer crowds. Pure magic. ✨

Tomorrow is Potluck + Live Music Day at The Great Outdoors RV Resort, and if you're within 90 minutes of Franklin, NC, you are close enough to make this happen. Load up, roll in, and let the weekend do the rest.
