Interior has been renovated with all the desirable modern comforts and conveniences, including linens and towels for your use. Only a short drive from many western North Carolina destinations. Screened porch perfect for picnics and morning coffee. Bike routes nearby for easy access. Non-Smoking. Q: Where will I find a key to the home? Option 1: Self check-in with the lockbox. Option 2: Your hosts Jim and Pam will be happy to greet you at The Dock Barnard Farm and give you a key. Rates: $155/night, 2-night minimum, $120 housekeeping fee, 9.75% tax

As you’ve probably read, both owners of vacation rental homes who list their properties on the Airbnb and Vrbo platforms and their guests are being impacted by significant changes. How can guests protect themselves from platform markups when booking an entire home for their family to get away? Consider the following:

1. Find the cabin or management company name on the Airbnb or Vrbo listing of interest.
2. Google that name and look for their own booking website.
3. Book direct. You deal with the people who actually care about the place, and the platform markup is gone.
