Attention! Do NOT touch any fawns, even if they are alone!
Fawn season has begun and we are excited to see them begin to pop up within the park! You may see one alone or even hear one crying. Just remember, a doe often leaves its fawn for extended periods of time. It is illegal to transport any deer due to Chronic Wasting Disease. Moving a deer, even a fawn, could mean endangering the lives of every deer it interacts with in the new location.
It is illegal to care for or transport a fawn without a license. Rehabilitators in TN are unable to take in fawns due to Chronic Wasting Disease. It is best for the deer - and you - if you leave the fawn alone.
TWRA states the following: "Newborn fawns have less odor than mature deer and have spotted fur, both of which help them hide from predators. It is best to leave the fawn where you found it, as the doe will return to nurse the fawn when it is safe. If you have picked up the fawn, please return it to the location it was found."
