Bledsoe Creek State Park

Bledsoe Creek State Park Bledsoe Creek is rich with wildlife and draws in campers, hikers, and fishers to Old Hickory Lake. Bledsoe Creek State Park is rich in history.
(258)

It was once a prime hunting ground for the Cherokee, Creek, Shawnee and Chickamauga Native American tribes. Once English settlers arrived to the area, the once great herds of animals were dispersed, never to return. The area is home to a wealth of Native American history along with various historical sites nearby. The Bledsoe Creek territory became a Tennessee State Park in 1973. The park features

58 paved campsites with water and electric and three hammock-only primitive campsites. There are more than six miles of scenic hiking trails. The trails meander through the forest and along the lakeshore of the park. One mile of these trails is paved making it accessible to persons with disabilities. The trails are open year round. Bledsoe Creek offers two boat launch ramps, one for registered campers only and the other open for the general public. Other activities include fishing at Old Hickory Lake, picnic facilities (the largest able to accommodate up to 100 people) and park programs which provide entertainment for all ages and change annually. Attention! Do NOT touch any fawns, even if they are alone!

Fawn season has begun and we are excited to see them begin to pop up within the park! You may see one alone or even hear one crying. Just remember, a doe often leaves its fawn for extended periods of time. It is illegal to transport any deer due to Chronic Wasting Disease. Moving a deer, even a fawn, could mean endangering the lives of every deer it interacts with in the new location.

It is illegal to care for or transport a fawn without a license. Rehabilitators in TN are unable to take in fawns due to Chronic Wasting Disease. It is best for the deer - and you - if you leave the fawn alone.

TWRA states the following: "Newborn fawns have less odor than mature deer and have spotted fur, both of which help them hide from predators. It is best to leave the fawn where you found it, as the doe will return to nurse the fawn when it is safe. If you have picked up the fawn, please return it to the location it was found."

For more information on deer and fawns, visit the TWRA website.

While we encourage our campground guests to enjoy wildlife viewing, we want to remind guests feeding the wildlife is not permitted. Not only does feeding wildlife cause negative impacts on the animals over the longterm, but it impacts your fellow campers. A squirrel that found food on a campsite last weekend will return the next weekend looking for another easy meal. Unfortunately that is sometimes an RV fuel line, the snacks hidden in a tent, or electrical wiring in a vehicle.

Thank you for caring for the wildlife by securing food inside your vehicles and trash in the dumpsters.
