has ruffled a lot of feathers this week with their recent changes. If you haven’t kept up with the news, Airbnb recently announced changes to its policy surrounding rental agreements, collecting guest information and limiting rules that hosts can require of guests. This is more than hosts no longer having the ability to ask guests to wash dishes or pick up after their pets (which should be common courtesy but you would be shocked how some guests treat someone else’s home); this puts both GUESTS and hosts at risk and this is not the win you think it is.
These policy changes remove the ability for hosts to know who is staying in our home and has removed our ability to get in touch with guests during an emergency as we will no longer have their name, phone number or email without rental agreements. A hotel would never let you check in without an ID or contact information. The risk and liability of hosts allowing strangers in their homes with pools, hot tubs, saunas, lakes, etc with no rental agreements or waiver signed is dangerous.
At Cowboy Casa, our check out instructions have always been, “Please take out the trash, place wet towels in the shower and lock the door on your way out. Safe travels and happy trails to you 🤠”.
We agree asking guests to strip beds and start laundry and mop floors is overkill, but these recent changes go beyond no longer being able to ask guests to pick up after themselves.
