The glamorous side of owning and managing a historic vacation home… 😂

There are the pretty photos.

The porch.
The historic architecture.
The cozy rooms.
The beach days.

And then there's the part nobody puts on Instagram:

🧹 Cleaning
🧺 Laundry
🛠️ Fixing things
🪴 Taking care of the property
🛒 Restocking supplies
🔍 Walking through the house looking for the thing you KNOW you just saw five minutes ago…

Being a family-run vacation home means we're pretty hands-on around here.

And honestly?

We wouldn't have it any other way.

There's something really satisfying about knowing that when a family walks through those doors, we've done everything we can to make their stay comfortable.

That's the behind-the-scenes part of The Blue Herron. 💙

Okay, Galveston friends… let's see what kind of island person you are. 😂🌊

🏖️ The Beach Bum
Give me a towel, some sunscreen, and don't expect to see me until sunset.

🍤 The Foodie
I'm here for the restaurants. The beach is just conveniently nearby.

🎶 The Music Lover
Where's the live music tonight?

🏛️ The History Nerd
I came for the old buildings, historic homes, and stories behind them.

🛍️ The Explorer
I'm going everywhere. Give me a map and a full day.

😴 The Vacationer
Honestly? I just want a comfortable house, a porch, and permission to do absolutely nothing.

Or maybe you're a little bit of all of them. 😉

Tell us which one you are in the comments!

Here's something to remember the next time you're walking around Galveston's East End Historic District:

Those old houses aren't just pretty buildings.

They're survivors.

The Blue Herron was built in 1868 by Rebecka Olmstead Behrman. More than 150 years later, we're still standing here — and we're now a designated Galveston Historic Landmark.

Think about everything this house has witnessed.

Storms.
Families.
Changes to the island.
Businesses coming and going.
Generations growing up.

And now it's witnessing your vacation.

That's one of the things we love about historic homes. You don't just look at history from behind a rope or through a museum window.

Sometimes, you get to sleep in it. 💙

One of the things that makes The Blue Herron special to us is that it really is a family affair. 💙

We’re not a big vacation rental company with a whole team somewhere else. We’re family.

Brandon takes care of and manages the property, and Tianna and Christina each bring their own talents and passions to the family.

And when we renovated The Blue Herron a couple of years ago, they weren’t just watching from the sidelines. Tianna, Brandon, and Christina all had a hand in the design decisions that helped turn this historic house into the home we’re so proud to share today.

Between landscaping, music, theater, community events and everything else life throws at us, we’re a pretty busy bunch. 😂

But The Blue Herron gives us another reason to stay connected to the island we love.

We’re local. We live here. We work here. We support other local businesses. And we genuinely enjoy sharing Galveston with the people who come to visit.

We put a lot of ourselves into this place.

And hopefully, when you walk through the door, you can feel that. 🌊
