If seeing the synchronous fireflies in the Smoky Mountains isn’t on your bucket list yet, it should be.

For a few short weeks every year, thousands of fireflies blink in sync across the forest like nature’s own light show. It’s one of those experiences people talk about for years after they see it.

The experience is so popular that the National Park Service limits access to the Elkmont area during the short eight-day peak viewing period to help protect the fireflies and preserve the experience.

It’s quiet. Surreal. Almost impossible to explain unless you’ve seen it yourself.
