Ames Farm connections on the Appalachian Trail. These 2 started hiking together. He said he was from NH. She said she just visited a place on Winnipesaukee. Former employee (Joe's son) and former guest! Such a small world.

Grateful to reconnect with our first guests of the season, for our amazing team who work so hard to get us open, and beautiful photos from Jeremy Noyes Fine Art Photography.

Still lots to do, but the water is on, docks are being installed, and gardens are being prepped.

The fishing’s been good, days are getting warmer, and it’s a great time to unplug at The Farm.

-SEE YOU LATER, ALLIGATOR-
This morning’s sunrise was nothing short of spectacular. Before turning in last night, every forecast I checked was hinting at something special and it absolutely delivered! The docks at Ames Farm Inn are finally back, adding a perfect foreground to one of my favorite sunrise spots on Lake Winnipesaukee. This location never gets old, and even though this is my first image from here this year, it certainly won’t be the last as we head deeper into spring and summer. I composed this shot to frame both Diamond Island on the left and Rattlesnake Island on the right. And maybe it’s just me, but Rattlesnake Island has always looked a bit like an alligator gliding across the water. With completely still air and glassy conditions, the lake turned into a mirror. My family and I are heading down to Cape Cod today for our first visit, and we’ll be spending the next six days exploring everything it has to offer. I’m really looking forward to seeing what we discover—and hopefully coming back with some great photos along the way. If there are any must-see spots or hidden gems, I’d love to hear your recommendations!
I wish you all a wonderful day!!!

ICE OUT has been declared by Emerson Aviation on Lake Winnipesaukee — 4/12/26 at 6:59am.

After months of solid ice, and watching conditions shift over the last few weeks, the lake has opened up once again. With the M/S Mount Washington able to move between ports, a new season is officially underway!

At the LWA, this moment always means something a little deeper. It’s a reminder of the lake’s resilience, the cycles it moves through, and why this work matters. While summer monitoring ramps up in June, protecting Winnipesaukee is year-round — through every season, condition, and change.

As the lake comes back to life, so do all the reasons we care about it. Here’s to another season on the water!!
