Did you know that the moon has a fascinating influence on the tides of our incredible tidal bay? It's true! The gravitational pull of the moon and the sun actually cause our tides to rise and fall in a rhythmic pattern.

When the moon is in its full or new phase, its gravitational pull aligns with that of the sun, creating higher high tides and lower low tides. This is known as a "spring tide" and it happens twice a month. So you can expect some impressive tidal fluctuations during these times!

On the other hand, when the moon is in its first or third quarter phase, its gravitational pull is at right angles to that of the sun, which causes smaller tidal ranges. These are known as "neap tides" and happen also twice a month.

Being a tidal bay means that our landscape is constantly shifting and evolving with the ebbs and flows of the tides. It creates a dynamic environment that is bursting with life and provides endless opportunities for exploration and discovery.

Whether you're an avid beachcomber or simply love the serenity of watching the tides roll in and out, our tidal bay offers something truly special. So come on over, embrace the magic of the moon's dance with the ocean, and experience the wonder of our tidal bay for yourself!

August has 2 full moons this month. Tonight is the 1st full moon and the 2nd supermoon for the year.

Today's full moon is called the "Sturgeon Moon".

It was named the Sturgeon Moon because the giant sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were most readily caught during this part of the summer.

What a full moon is named comes from many different places including Native American, Colonial American, and European sources.

Traditionally, the full moon name was applied to the entire lunar month it occurred, not just the full moon.

Other August full moon names:
πŸŒ• "Flying Up Moon" (Cree) Describing the time when young birds are finally ready to learn to fly
πŸŒ• "Corn Moon" (Algonquin, Ojibwe)
πŸŒ• "Harvest Moon" (Dakota)
πŸŒ• "Ricing Moon" (Anishinaabe) These 3 signify the time to gather maturing crops
πŸŒ• "Black Cherries Moon" (Assiniboine) Refers to when chokecherries are ripe
πŸŒ• "Mountain Shadows Moon" (Tlingit)

Make sure to keep an eye out towards the East shortly after sunset to see the Full Sturgeon Moon rising!
