Sarah Prout serves as the Vice President for Marketing and Communications at the University of North Dakota Alumni Association & Foundation. Sarah directs branding and message development for fundraising campaigns and alumni engagement. She leads a team responsible for the image of the UND Alumni Association & Foundation through events, publications, stewardship and donor appreciation, social media, storytelling, video, and web.
With more than 19 years of experience across public, private, and non-profit sectors, Sarah is known for her ability to build strong teams that focus on powerful storytelling and brand management.
Sarah joined the UND Alumni Association & Foundation in 2018 and has since played a key role in several major initiatives. She helped launch the UND Angel Fund, led the re-envisioning of the UND Alumni Magazine, and was instrumental in the campaign for the Nistler College of Business & Public Administration building.
Most recently, she led the marketing and messaging strategy for UND’s largest-ever capital campaign, the $500 million “Forever UND” initiative, launched in October 2023. After surpassing its original goal 22 months ahead of schedule, the campaign has been expanded to $625 million while maintaining its original end date of December 31, 2026.
In 2025, she helped drive a record-breaking year, securing nearly $120 million in gifts and growing the endowment to more than half a billion dollars.
In addition to her role as Vice President of Marketing and Communications, Sarah also served as the interim board professional for the UND Alumni Association & Foundation Board of Directors and Campaign Committee. Stepping into the role unexpectedly, she built her knowledge from the ground up, gaining firsthand experience in governance, leadership support, and organizational strategy. She brings a unique perspective on adaptability, behind-the-scenes leadership, and the critical role of professionals who keep organizations moving forward.
Sarah was recently honored as one of Prairie Business Magazine's Top 40 Under 40 in 2024, a prestigious recognition celebrating outstanding business professionals under 40 across the Northern Plains. This award highlights her leadership, dedication, and significant contributions to her industry and community.
