That 1947 Chevy everyone recognizes from our pasture has a new job.

We dragged it up to a spot right in the pasture where people can actually reach it, and turned it into our farm stand. Zac added shelves to the back after this pic was taken.

Self-serve, Venmo sign for payment, stocked with eggs, zinnias, and extra produce whenever we've got it.

Still wearing every bit of its rust and lichen, we're not touching that.

Might even do Christmas wreaths out there this winter.

I turned 59 yesterday. Boss gave me the day off, and I enjoyed it fully. This was one of the best parts.

Every time guests are 10 minutes out, we take the UTV out to meet them, then take them and their stuff up to the dome.

Two plates, two plants, both grown and dried right here.

Mullein's (on the right) big velvety leaves crumble down to something almost silvery, comfrey (on the left) dries darker and coarser.

Both have a long history in old-timey home remedies, mullein leaf steeped for a sore throat, comfrey used as a poultice for bruises and sprains, that's not medical advice, just what the old timers did with them.

We grow, cut, and dry both by hand, and sell through our Etsy shop.

Comfrey's already sold out this year, mullein's still available. Message if you'd like our best price for direct sales.

We needed more room for the flock of 40 chickens and ducks… so we built more! I asked Zac to make it look like Biltmore, you know, because we’re so fancy here. Once it gets mill end walls and a tin roof, it’ll be grand.

Brides, do you really love this? Or is it just hype?

This one's new for us: Queeny zinnias, a variety florists supposedly love because brides ask for them by name.

We put in a small test bed this year to see how they'd do here and to save seed for next season.

The color's a little strange, chartreuse and green, more Lilly Pulitzer than classic zinnia, but we're into it.

That soft, silvery grass catching the evening light is foxtail, and we're cutting and drying bundles of it right now for our Etsy shop and for dried arrangements here on the property.

It's one more thing growing wild here, dried the same low-tech way we've dried mullein, comfrey, and zinnias: cut, bundled, and hung until it holds its shape.

That jar isn't decoration.

It's next year's zinnia patch, drying down before we shake the seed loose and store it for spring.

Every color you'll see blooming in the pasture next summer traces back to a jar exactly like this one. It's a small, unglamorous step, and it's the whole reason the flowers keep coming back. Follow along as we plant, dry, and replant our way through the seasons here.

Cats ALWAYS pick the human who's allergic...

Monkey Doris showed up at Zac's place a few months back, barely 4 or 5 weeks old and looking for help.

Zac's severely allergic to cats, so naturally she adores him.

He brought her out here to be a barn cat, and she's still working on the concept of leaving the hens and ducks alone.

A couple of our drakes have made it very clear they've had enough of her nonsense.

Turns out she might be polydactyl too, which means extra toes, which means extra toe beans.

They’ve been doing something a little nerve-wracking lately… will try to get it on video.
