Today, we remember Charleston Police Department Policeman Lawrence Aytes, Detective James Tindal, and Sergeant Jessie Benton . On this date in 1955, Policeman Lawrence Aytes was killed while attempting to rescue a citizen during the Charleston Tidewater Terminal fire.

Great day for law enforcement!

Great day for law enforcement!

Today, Governor Henry McMaster ceremonially signed H.3034, Fargo’s, Hyco’s, Rico’s, Coba’s, Wick’s, Mikka’s, and Bumi’s Law.

For more than a decade, strengthening protections for law enforcement K-9s has been an SCFOP legislative priority. We appreciate the members of the General Assembly and Governor McMaster for supporting this important legislation and recognizing the sacrifices made by K-9 teams across South Carolina.

The ceremony included handlers who have lost K-9 partners in the line of duty, honoring the service and sacrifice represented by the names carried in this law.

SCFOP was proud to be there.
