In 1988, the Wilton team set out with one goal: to create an incredible restaurant rooted in the values of the Shenandoah Valley — warm hospitality, genuine service, thoughtful food, and a place where people could gather to celebrate life together.
What they created became something far greater than a restaurant. For 38 years, the Joshua Wilton House has been part of the fabric of this community. It became a place for first dates, anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, proposals, wedding dinners, business meetings, and quiet evenings shared over a bottle of wine.
Generations of guests walked through these doors, and generations of staff devoted themselves to making this house feel special. Chefs, servers, bartenders, managers, hosts, dishwashers, and countless others all helped shape what the Joshua Wilton House became over nearly four decades.
After 38 unforgettable years, we will be closing this chapter of the Joshua Wilton House at the end of June.
This decision comes with immense gratitude and emotion. Places like this are rare, and what made the Joshua Wilton House extraordinary was never simply the building itself — it was the people inside of it. The guests who returned year after year. The staff who poured their hearts into service every night. The community that embraced this house and made it part of Harrisonburg’s story.
To properly honor that legacy, we will be hosting a Farewell Series throughout the final week of June as July 3rd will be the final day of the Joshua Wilton house, as we have come to love it. These evenings will celebrate the history, the people, the food, and the memories that have defined the Joshua Wilton House for nearly four decades. We hope old friends, former staff, longtime guests, and new faces alike will join us one final time to celebrate everything this house has meant to so many.
