We are incredibly thankful for the Round Lake Fire Department, Sawyer County Sheriff’s office and Saywer County Dispatch. This afternoon we had a compost pile up on our hill behind the lodge spontaneously combust. Bryan and I got home at 1:30 this afternoon and all was quiet. At 2:15 we received a call from and RV repair man on the grounds telling us the hill was on fire. By the time Bryan got up on the hill the flames were 10 feet in the air and the fire was moving fast. Bryan, Hailey, Kirk McDonald and Chaz, the hero from Markquart RV repair, were able to semi contain it until the fire trucks arrived. 1 1/2 hours later the fire was out and all property was saved. We hadn’t put any fire ash up there at all in due to the dry conditions, the fire just started all on its own. The fire crew said they have seen this happen especially when there is straw in the pile and when it does happen it happens fast. (Video in comments.)

Fall in the Northwoods is defined by more than just cooler temperatures and the breathtaking colors of the changing leaves. It’s also the time of year when the legendary Muskie bite heats up! As the waters cool and the fall colors reach their peak, anglers head out in pursuit of the elusive fish of 10,000 casts. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of fall Muskie fishing in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin! Our guests Kathy and Jim Lindemulder were able to hook into a 44” Muskie on Callahan Lake. Congratulations on your catch Kathy!

“What’s the deal with all the cats??” Hailey asks us this morning during her lodge trash run. We walked outside and realized Callahan Lake Resort Lodge has been “Kitty-fied” . Cute Little 3-D printed kitties all over the deck of the lodge. We counted and thought we saw about 15 or so…We then soon realized the bottoms of the kitties are numbered. Last number I saw was 29 so we may have kitty sighting for a while now🐱 now to figure out who the kitty culprit is…

Edit!! The kitties have ventured up the hill to the dumpster area also! Pictures in the comments!

Edit (again)! There are blue ones also! This is so fun.
