Ever wonder why Helper, Utah is called Helper? 🚂
Back in the late 1800s, trains climbing the steep grade to Soldier Summit needed extra locomotives—known as “helper engines”—to push and pull them up the mountain. These engines were stationed here, and the town eventually took on the name Helper.
What started as a railroad stop grew into a thriving coal mining and railroad community, and its rich history can still be seen throughout town today.
