As we get deeper into the season, we figure it’s time to share a pretty significant update to the Highbridge Hills team this year. As some of you may already know, Tom “Mountain Man” Wincse decided to finally retire from his legendary Highbridge Hills role at the beginning of this year. For the past 7 years, he quite literally kept the heart of Highbridge Hills beating.. and beating strong.
Back in 2019, Tom took a massive leap of faith and took over as the sole owner/operator of Highbridge Hills in order to save it from almost certain extinction as the Disc Golf paradise that we all cherish so much. Through sheer grit, determination, endless hours of backbreaking labor, and unmatched dedication to this community, he didn’t just maintain the grounds, he brought it back above and beyond its original glory. Seeing the transition consistently unfold from when he took it over to now, was inspiring and almost unbelievable to witness. If we could see side by side images from 2019 to now, of every acre of the property, you’d almost certainly say it’s AI generated because it doesn’t seem real.
As a result of Tom’s vision and tireless efforts over the years, the next generation of Highbridge Hills ownership and crew members have been set up for an incredibly smooth transition into continuing to keep the Highbridge Hills legacy moving forward toward the further greatness the property and experience deserve. He laid the foundation so it can continue to thrive for decades to come. We couldn’t be more grateful for all he has done for the Hill, for us, and for the HH community as a whole.
To be completely honest, as you can imagine, Tom’s retirement has left a massive hole in the daily maintenance lineup on the Hill. It’s been quite (literally) a steep learning curve as we do our absolute best to uphold the same maintenance standards that he instilled on the disc golf and camping experience for all guests. We’ve got a crew of 3 - 6 out there working as often as we can, just to match the level of pristine conditions that he was able to accomplish mostly as an army of one. As much as we will miss having his presence, life philosophies, and work efforts as a regular part of the Hill, we couldn’t be more excited for him to finally have some time for himself, to enjoy more than just the pleasures of maintaining such an iconic and important property for so many others.
Tom… thank you so much for your selfless commitment and passion to saving the place that so many of us consider our home away from home. Hope the fish are biting for you and that you get to enjoy waking up in the morning without a thought in the world except where to cast a line after your morning coffee. I think I speak for everyone in the Highbridge Hills community when I say that the appreciation runs incredibly deep and you will forever be considered a true legend on the Hill. Hope to see you back for a visit soon, but until then.. enjoy your retirement! You’ve more than earned it.
"Ready. Fire. Aim."
Much love to you Mountain Man!!
