Thank you to all who have commented about our Broad Street Manor. We came to Hillsdale in 2018 because we bought the home and to understand more about the mission of Hillsdale College. In 2019 at the urging of a friend we started the bed and breakfast. It has been much work but worth all the effort.

We developed our orchard that includes tart and sweet cherry trees, peach and apricot trees along with pear, plum and apple trees. The real stars of the gardens are all the gorgeous flowers that begin with tulips and continue way past frost. The 30-40 hours of upkeep to those gardens mainly by Linda was rewarded in 2023 with the Hillsdale County Historical Society Beautication Award.

Wow 53 years ago today my crash in Vietnam! By Gods grace we survived with many injuries. I think Capt Jonn Clapper has died. Lt Marion Messenger is maybe still alive? Roby Farmer in West Virgina? Ron Clark? I know I was pretty messed up but I came back to flying the mission. When you are 21 you feel invincible! I need that today at 74. Just falling off a ladder at 2 feet hurts.! To think we survived 75 foot trees and lived to tell it! I give credit to Capt John Clapper! He saved us this day so long ago.

Today we put up ridge boards on a pavilion we are building. Just at 13.5 feet and not 75 feet! I am blessed.

I’m glad I’m alive!

A perfect purple pair! 💜

Things could not be better than this! Our first Purple Iris opened today and we picked our first purple asparagus! ☺️

We will have a taste test later to determine if purple or green asparagus tastes best with my Hollandaise sauce! 👩🏼‍🍳

✨The latest from Linda’s kitchen: Peanut Butter Pie Bites with Chocolate Drizzle 😋

Ingredients:

1 (8oz) package cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup natural peanut butter, ( smooth )
1/2 cup confectioners’-style erythritol
2 ounces dark chocolate (70 or more % cacao, chopped)

Directions:

1. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper
2. In mixing bowl cream together cream cheese and peanut butter using a hand mixer on med speed. When mixture is creamy smooth slowly add erythritol until well combined
3. In a small glass dish, microwave the chocolate in 30 second increments, stirring after each, until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
4. Drop tablespoons of peanut butter mixture onto the prepared pan. Drizzle melted chocolate over each bite and put the pan in the freezer for at least one hour before serving.
5. Remove bites from freezer and let sit for a few minutes before serving! Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the freezer IF there are any left!

Enjoy with coffee and friends ☺️

Jimmy, the giraffe, just arrived from the local wildlife preserve though originally from Indonesia! He seems to be adjusting well to his new environment and enjoys attention, conversation and treats!

You’ll have to find him in the sun room during your next stay at the Broad Street Manor ☺️

I made these baked pizza mushrooms for guests who love pizza but don’t love the carbs! 😋 They were a hit!

Here’s the recipe:

•Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
•Wash and remove stems from mushrooms
•Place right side up on a buttered baking pan
•Put 1 tsp. of each of the following: pizza sauce, pepperoni slices chopped, mozzarella cheese, and fresh parsley or basil for garnish
•Bake for approximately 10 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and browning.

Enjoy with the same beverages you would serve with your favorite pizza!🍻
