AMEN! The Lake Claiborne Community is Praying for this Precious little girl! Prayers for healing of Lillian, comfort for her family and for God to show us the power of prayer and that miracles do happen! 🙏🏼

🙏 A MESSAGE TO OUR LAKE CLAIBORNE COMMUNITY 🙏

The Louisiana Department of Health has confirmed a case of Naegleria fowleri infection in a Louisiana resident and has reported that the infection was most likely acquired while swimming in Lake Claiborne.

First and foremost, our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with this little girl, her family and everyone affected by this heartbreaking situation. ❤️ We ask our community to continue lifting this family up in prayer and to respect their privacy during an incredibly difficult time.

We also know that Lake Claiborne is home to our community and that many people have questions and concerns after hearing this news. We want to help share facts directly from the Louisiana Department of Health rather than rumors or speculation.

Naegleria fowleri, commonly referred to as the “brain-eating amoeba,” is a naturally occurring amoeba found in warm freshwater such as lakes, rivers, canals and ponds.

According to LDH:

• Infection is extremely rare but very serious.
• Infection occurs when water containing the amoeba enters the nose and reaches the brain.
• You cannot become infected by swallowing the water.
• It cannot be spread from person to person.
• The amoeba thrives in warm freshwater and grows best at higher temperatures.
• There is no routine environmental test for Naegleria fowleri in bodies of water.

🌊 WHAT CAN WE DO?

LDH states that although the risk of infection is low, recreational freshwater users should always assume there is some risk and take precautions to limit the amount of water that goes up the nose.

When enjoying warm freshwater:

• Consider wearing a nose clip or plugging your nose when going underwater.
• Keep your head above water when possible.
• Avoid allowing water to be forced up your nose.
• Avoid digging in or stirring up sediment in shallow, warm freshwater.
• Use additional caution during extended periods of extreme heat when water temperatures are higher.

We love Lake Claiborne, and it is important that our community understands both the seriousness and the rarity of this infection.

We encourage everyone to read the information released by the Louisiana Department of Health, educate themselves, take reasonable precautions and rely on information from LDH and the CDC rather than speculation on social media.

Most importantly, please continue to pray for this little girl and her family. Right now, they are what matters most. 🙏❤️
