Rotary connects 1.2 million members from more than 200 countries and geographical areas. Their work impacts lives at both the local and international levels, from helping families in need in their own communities to working toward a polio-free world. Polio Eradication Rotary is close to eliminating the second human disease in history after smallpox, with a 99 percent reduction in polio cases world

wide since 1985, when Rotary launched its PolioPlus program. In 1988, Rotary spearheaded the creation of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative with its partners the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Polio eradication remains Rotary’s top priority. To date, Rotary has contributed more than US$1.2 billion and countless volunteer hours to help immunize more than two billion children against polio in 122 countries. Currently, Rotary is working to raise $35 million per year through 2018 for polio
eradication, which will be matched 2 to 1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Hot Springs National Park Rotary member Mary Metcalf introduced our speaker, Dr. Dana Grenman at our recent meeting.

Dr. Dana Grenman is a Chiropractic Specialist in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She graduated with honors from Palmer College Chiropractic — West Sunnyvale in 2017. She has more than 9 years of diverse experience. Born and raised in Israel, Dana moved to Arkansas as a teen, graduating from Hot Springs High School in 2003. She and her husband, Dr. Matthew Dickerson, have Aligned Family Wellness.

Dana shared an incredible story about a doctor who said yes to a big request to travel to the community of Piedras Negras, Mexico from their local Rotary Club to treat patients. What started with one treatment table, one day, a small group of chiropractors serving 150 patients has grown over the past 23 years. On the last visit, 2,433 patients were treated.

This success comes from the efforts of the Rotary club in Harrison, AR and the Rotary club in Piedras Negras, Mexico. There are volunteers from both the United States and Mexico, with translators being provided so that they can communicate effectively. They now take close to 20 doctors each year and that number continues to grow. An optometrist has been added to the volunteer team that gives free eye exams and makes glasses available. This year they were also joined by a pediatric dentist.

This story isn't really about chiropractic care. It's about relationships and it's about gratitude. It's about what can happen when someone simply says yes. The story is simple. Someone said yes, Rotary showed up to make it happen, and 23 years later, lives have been touched because of that one simple act of service.

This presentation went great with our Rotary theme of the year, Unite For Good. When multiple Rotary clubs join together to serve over 2400 patients, that is the power of Rotary in action. Two Rotary clubs across 2 countries serving the needs of others is a fantastic exmple of Unite For Good.

There are so many great reasons to join Rotary. It would be hard to list them all, so we came up with what we feel are 10 really good reasons!

It is with great sadness that we announce Al Carney passed away June 7. Al was a long time member of Hot Springs National Park Rotary. As his health declined he was unable to attend meetings and resigned with regrets in December 2024. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.

Al was always someone many of us looked forward to seeing each week. Mary Metcalf interviewed him for an article in our publication Stroll Lakeside Area for a special Veterans Day issue in November 2023 and he seemed so honored to be featured.

Thank you to The Sentinel-Record for a great recap of our most recent weekly meeting. It was a pleasure to hear about the life saving services offered from LifeNet,Inc. to the citizens of Hot Springs. They also provide services in several other areas.

One thing that we can say as our President Tim Metcalf winds down his year as our leader, he has kept us on our toes. You never know what will happen at Hot Springs National Park Rotary. This week included the crew from Garvan Woodland Gardens “bribing” one of the judges in the Stueart Pennington's World Championship Running of the Tubs, our very own Rotarian Matt Barrett. The President Baby Farewell Tour is in full swing as we count down to the beginning of Justin Nicklas turn to lead us.

Hot Springs National Park Rotary is gearing up for our final service project of the 2025-2026 Rotary Year. We have certainly been busy this year but we wanted to get in one more act of serving. The new Rotary year will begin on July 1.

James Frierson and the hard working members of our Community Enhancement/Environmental Committee is organizing a repeat visit to the City of Hot Springs Community Resource Center . The attached graphic gives the details of what is needed.

On Wednesday June 17 we will meet at the Community Resource Center and this time we are teaming up with The Giving Team Inc. and Friends of the Hot Springs Community Resource Center.

We will prepare/serve lunch and collect donations of items needed as outlined in the graphic. You may drop items at 109 Hobson Ave. from 8:30-4:30 on June 17th. Also, Hot Springs National Park Rotary President Elect, Justin Nicklas has agreed to allow donations to be dropped off at Gross Funeral Home during normal business hours up until the day of the event (6/17).

The Rotary theme for 2025-26 is Unite For Good and this is just one more way that Rotary clubs across the world are uniting for good.

Please fell free to share this post as we invite the community to take part as well.
