Do You Hear What I Hear? The sounds of nature envelope you when you climb into “nature’s megaphone” at Agnes S. Andreae Nature Preserve, just a few miles from Indian River RV Resort in beautiful Indian River, Michigan. Little Traverse Conservancy staff member Charles Dawley worked with local students to build the megaphone, which was placed in the preserve in 2019. It’s a fascinating way to experience nature: Crawl inside, lie still, and stay quiet. The design amplifies sounds filtering into the opening and lets you focus on your senses more profoundly. The preserve also provides five miles of trails, with a mile alongside the Pigeon River. The loop to the megaphone and back is about 2 miles. Agnes S. Yaz's is a popular local site for a great sandwich (ham, turkey, or salami; club, BLT, Italian, Chicken salad, and tuna salad); Salad (garden, chef, Blue Cheese, or Italian); wraps; three kinds of hot dogs; and a few Mexican flavors (burritos, tacos, and nachos). Open through the week from 10 to 2 pm. Please Note: Cash Only. 🔆 Yaz's is a close spot to grab lunch after visiting one of the kids' favorite— or the young at heart— destinations, Chillermania, the headquarters of celebrated author, Johnathan Rand (www.americanchillers.com). Yaz's is also the perfect place to pick up a picnic lunch and head to a local beauty spot to enjoy it, like Topinabee Beach Park, where you can enjoy your picnic, swim, and play. (Adjacent to an historic library that used to be a train station, located at 1576 N. Straits Hwy).
