Indiana Farm Bureau continues to advocate for a fix for Prop 12. Ask your member of Congress to do what's best for farmers and consumers by preventing a patchwork of 50 different state laws that interfere with interstate commerce.

Why should California billionaires and Silicon Valley tech executives get to decide how pigs are raised on Indiana farms?

Indiana pork farmers know their animals best. They work every day to provide responsible animal care and safe, nutritious food for families across America.

Farm decisions should be guided by the people closest to the work — farmers, veterinarians and sound science — not outside interests thousands of miles away.

This fall, INFB's public policy team hosted legislators on two farm tours, one in Decatur County and one in Starke County.

In Decatur County, Rep. Lindsay Patterson and Rep. Alex Zimmerman joined Nick Wenning for corn harvest on his farm. They also saw firsthand how the Wennings use cover crops on their operation.

In Starke County, Northwest Indiana legislators toured Dan and Mary Gumz's mint farm. Rep. Kendell Culp, Rep. Randy Novak and Rep. Jim Pressel learned how the unique crop of mint is grown and harvested.

Thank you to Nick, Dan and Mary for opening your farms and sharing your perspectives. Visits like these help ensure farmers' voices continue to be heard at the Statehouse.

American Farm Bureau is encouraging farmers to fully understand the residual fertility tax deduction.

Under Section 180 of the Internal Revenue Code, farmers can claim deductions on fertilizer already present in soil when purchasing land, with potential write-offs of hundreds or thousands of dollars per acre. But the deduction lacks clear IRS guidance and could cost far more than budgeted if widely claimed nationwide. Farmers considering it should understand the risks, as improper claims could result in significant financial penalties.
