We’d like to welcome Elijah Mayers as the new camp manager here at Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp. He is a 2024 graduate of Vinton County High School and camped at Canter’s Cave his entire childhood. 🍀

Elijah has worked at camp in other roles for two years, as summer staff and kitchen manager. He is excited to move into the camp manager role and make camp a great place for all who visit!

One of our favorite things about having a booth at the Apple Festival is hearing all the stories from various camp alumni who stop by.

🍀 “I camped at Canter’s Cave when I was a kid. I had so much fun!”

🍀 “I met my spouse at 4-H camp. It is such a special place to us.”

🍀 “My kids went to 4-H camp for the first time this summer and absolutely loved it!”

🍀 “My camp counselor was a huge role model to me. I still remember their name and what they taught me all these years later.”

Position Description: The Camp Manager directs the overall business operation of the camp on a year-round basis, including purchasing, physical facilities management, personnel management and hiring, client booking, maintaining the calendar of events, customer service, and financial records. The position involves considerable independent work as well as being an effective member of a team.

Qualifications:
- Experience in business, budget management, employee relations is required.
- Knowledge of and experience in ordering, inventory, cash management, and office equipment use are also highly suggested.
- Ability to work within a budget and purchase supplies efficiently.
- College degree or commensurate life experience are required.
- This position has a very broad task list, so many disciplines and backgrounds could be considered.
- A positive attitude and support of the Camp’s mission are also required.

We heard that yesterday was National Camp Counselor Appreciation Day! 🍀🏕️

Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp is so grateful to the incredible counselors who make summer camp possible. Here are just a few who have helped make this another fantastic summer. Our camp counselors are song leaders, arts & crafts superstars, gaga ball conflict resolution-ers, magic makers, hiking pros, swim team captains, and so much more. They create the magic of camp for our campers, and we venture to say we have some of the best camp counselors around! 🫶
