Angel Mountain Cabin

Angel Mountain Cabin Need an escape from the real world? Here's one right here!

Peaceful and private, with hiking and two ponds on the premises, but handy to a mini version of the real world (Jefferson/West Jefferson, North Carolina).

We're still here! We've been running on all cylinders plus some for a few years, but we're here!

I'm posting to share the link for the Wilkes Holiday Store, which opened yesterday and will remain open until December 24. It's in a new location this year at the corner of 421/16 (big intersection) at the bottom of the mountain in the Valero strip. It's handy for anyone driving up to Ashe.

They're selling our honey, Ashe County cheese, items from Dewey's Bakery, and other goodies. In addition, they're holding a raffle for a 2-night stay in the cabin, with ALL proceeds from the raffle benefiting the High Country Food Hub in Boone.

Some of the leaders in this venture are cabin guests/honey customers who have become friends ❤

Take a peek at the site. If you're in a position to drive up and stop by, do!

Meanwhile, Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Helen & Randy

And here we are at the end of another year. How is that possible?

May 2022 bring peace, joy, comfort, good health, humor, and considerably more sanity to all of us.

Our baby Jeffrey snagged his wings in early November 1997, ending the brief active-duty portion of our SMA assignment. A few short months later, my husband, Randy, and I opened a bakery and sandwich shop in one of our county's tourist hot spots. The business bustled with out-of-towners and...

Incredibly, Angel Mountain Cabin is 20 years old this year!!! To celebrate, the cabin is getting a mini makeover, and we're not finished yet. Don't worry - we aren't touching the tranquility and special vibes. Hope to see you in 2021!

Getaway cabin nestled in the peace and quiet of the beautiful mountains of Ashe County, North Carolina; located down the road from New River State Park. Pets!

We're happy to report that Angel Mountain Cabin is back in business! It's a perfect getaway for some peace and tranquility in the midst of a bit of chaos these days....

Angel Mountain is very quiet, thanks to the current ban on short-term rentals, but we'll be hollering when the cabin is available again!

Randy's taking advantage of the lull in the normal circus around here to try to stay one step ahead of the bees. Wish him luck, as they aren't practicing social distancing in any capacity. Three swarms in two days, for starters....

We hope all is well wherever you are and that we'll be able to see you sometime this year!!!

We're still here!!! We're currently in Winter Hibernation mode, which is good news for you: $75/night for two nights, and $50/night for the third night and each one after that. Pesky tax has to be added, but still.... We get back to the real world on April 1 - no foolin'!

Because many of our 'cabineers' were originally drawn to the cabin because of its backstory and return because the special 'angel' vibes, I wanted to share my sister-in-law's latest project.

Meanwhile, happy FEBRUARY. Sheesh.

* * * * *

My exceptionally creative sister-in-law, Jaymie Derden, wanted to redo the rush seats of their dining room chairs. She decided to reweave the seats, enjoying the mesmerizing process and stunning outcome so much that she began a small business. She has transformed complete chairs with not only new seats, but new paint/refinishing as well.

When one customer asked if she could use some fabric that held special meaning for her family, Jaymie promptly discovered that as much as she enjoyed the reweaving of random chairs, she had found a new passion: creating and preserving cherished memories for others. Our own family was privy to ornaments she made using my dad’s jeans and one of his favorite shirts that my brother had kept (photos below).

Since chairs are a little difficult to ship(!), Jaymie opened an Etsy shop for the smaller memory items: https://www.etsy.com/shop/chairweavingsandmore. There are plenty of photos on Etsy and on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/chairweavings), and I can say without a bit of bias that the workmanship of anything Jaymie does matches the thoughtfulness and beauty of any and all finished products.

There are currently only a few items pictured on Etsy; however, Jaymie is open to other suggestions, depending on how much fabric she’s given (i.e., small blankets/pillows for stuffed animals and dolls, etc.). I’ve also seen some really cute pillow cases she’s done for her grandchildren.

Many years ago, she made a gorgeous going-away gown for Jeffrey and a beautiful Christmas stocking for him that stayed up year-round for a few years.

As a ‘memory hoarder’ myself, I am thrilled to see Jaymie utilizing both her creative gifts and genuine caring for others to help preserve special memories in unique ways... especially when memories are all that’s left.

Please share with anyone you think might be interested. Thanks!
