In the spirit of Halloween... here are just a few of the many unexplained happenings that have been captured on security camera since the hotel opened nearly 3 years ago 👻🫣😲

Basketball was invented in 1891, and by 1894 the town of Mauch Chunk had a state-of-the-art indoor basketball court on the 3rd floor of the YMCA! In operation as a Y until 1984, this basketball court is still fully in tact underneath the 3rd floor of The Y On Broadway Hotel. If these walls could talk.... 🏀🧐👻

🏛️ A piece of Mauch Chunk history, preserved at The Y! ✨

Did you know the columns on our King Suite balcony have been part of this building for more than 130 years?

When the second courthouse in Mauch Chunk was being torn down to make way for the current third courthouse, these historic columns were rolled up the street and incorporated into the front of the YMCA during its construction in 1893–1894.

Fast-forward more than a century, and those same columns are still standing proudly! ❤️

During the renovation of The Y On Broadway, the owners gave these historic architectural features a fresh coat of paint and updated the balcony with new Trex decking—preserving a piece of our town’s past while creating a beautiful space for our guests to enjoy today.

We love that our King Suite balcony offers more than a place to relax and take in the sights of Historic Downtown Jim Thorpe. It offers a connection to the people, places, and stories that shaped this community.

More than a balcony. More than a view. It's a piece of history with a new chapter to tell.

✨ It’s the little details that bring a vision to life.

Long before these slate room numbers found their place on our doors, they started as a simple drawing on paper.

Piece by piece, those ideas became reality. Our custom slate room numbers were designed to complement the historic character of The Y—keeping that rustic, timeless feeling while adding a polished touch.

It’s details like these that make The Y feel like The Y. ❤️

The swimming pool at the YMCA was not very big, and it was in the back corner of the basement. From what we're told, it was not an original feature of the building when constructed in 1894. Males and females did not swim together, of course, and we've also heard that boys had to swim in the n**e 😲🤭

Tell us your stories! Did you learn how to swim here? Was this your after school hangout? Did you meet your best friend at the YMCA?

During the YMCA's 90 years in operation, there was at one point a dumbwaiter. It was used to transport food from the 2nd floor kitchen to the first floor. The original location of the dumbwaiter would be in the vicinity of rooms 207 and 101. This is a photo of the packaging the dumbwaiter was shipped in before being installed in the building. It was discovered during the renovation process - cool piece of history 🤓

Here you see two dudes' "to-do" list during the renovation of The Y. This was not a corporate-funded project. This was two local guys with a vision using their own experience and their own bare hands to create something incredible. No fancy tablets - just a pizza box with chicken scratch 😂
