Kohala Country Haven Kohala Country Haven offers three affordable charming private units for short or long term rental in lovely North Kohala.

For 40 years I've loved living in awesome North Kohala, fell in love with my special property when I first saw it in 1974, raised 3 children "roughing it" but loving adventures in a rural community, adopted 6 and fostered 7, taught school as a sub, K-12 , painted landscapes in oil around the island before the family expanded to 9+ diverse kids, now want to resume my passion for creativity, hosted many musicians and folks interested in sustainable living, healthy choices, loving each other, God and country, and appreciation for our uniquely wonderful treasures here at the end of the rainbow. I've really enjoyed meeting guests from all over the world and have made some lifetime friendships. Come visit, we hope you'll fall in love with the joys of North Kohala too, create wonderful memories with family and friends, (even business partners) and return for many visits! My daughter reminds me to "always keep smiling"…it's catching!

Plastic sippy cups shed up to 16 million microplastic particles per liter into your toddler's drink. Heat them, dishwasher them, pour in warm milk — the shedding multiplies.

Today we're sharing a special Throwback Thursday photo featuring longtime Kūkaʻiau rancher Samuel Haʻaheo Poliahu Kealoha, photographed at Lake Waiau, nestled near the summit of Mauna Kea.

This image captures more than just a moment in time - it reflects the enduring connection between Hawaiʻi's ranching families and the landscapes that have shaped generations.

If you have memories of Samuel Kealoha, Kūkaʻiau Ranch, or stories connected to Mauna Kea and Lake Waiau, we'd love for you to share them in the comments!
