Florida Keys Travel Tip: Check the forecast before heading out for the day.

The Keys are famous for sunshine, but Florida weather can change throughout the day. Before heading out for a beach day, sightseeing, or a drive along the Overseas Highway, take a quick look at the current forecast.

A little preparation can make a difference. Keep sunscreen handy, bring water for time outdoors, and consider having a light rain layer available when the forecast calls for showers.

And remember, a passing shower does not necessarily mean the day is over. Sometimes the clouds move through and the sunshine returns just as quickly.

One of the best parts of a Keys vacation is being able to adjust your plans and enjoy the day at its own pace.

There is something nice about having dinner with the ocean just beyond the table.

At Havana Jack's Oceanside Restaurant & Bar in Key Colony Beach, the setting gives dinner a distinctly Florida Keys feel. The current dinner menu includes several seafood-forward choices, including Scallop Risotto, Gulf Shrimp & Bucatini, and Sun Kissed Tuna.

The Scallop Risotto combines colossal scallops with Arborio rice, roasted asparagus, peas, Parmesan, lemon, and white w**e. The Gulf Shrimp & Bucatini features Gulf white shrimp with bucatini, shallot, spinach, tomato, Parmesan, lemon, and white w**e.

And for tuna lovers, the Sun Kissed Tuna features an 8-ounce Sichuan-crusted tuna steak with edamame paste, coconut rice, and papaya slaw.

Wednesday has a way of sneaking up on us. The week is moving along, but the weekend still feels just far enough away.

If you're spending time in the Florida Keys this week, there are a few events worth adding to your plans.

In Key West, Key West Brewfest continues through September 1. The multi-day event runs August 28 through September 1.

From September 2 through 6, Womenfest Key West brings five days of events and activities to Key West.

Also in Key West, John Frinzi & Aaron Scherz perform at Key West Theater on September 2 and 3. Dave Landau is scheduled at Comedy Key West September 2 through 5.

Closer to home, the Heroes Salute 5K Run/Walk takes place September 5 in Duck Key from 7 to 8:30 a.m.

And on September 4, First Fridays on Fleming takes place in Key West from 6 to 9 p.m.

There's plenty happening, but there is also always the option of spending the day doing absolutely nothing but enjoying the water.

There are some mornings in the Florida Keys when the best plan is simply to walk toward the water and take a few minutes to enjoy the view.

At Glunz Ocean Beach Hotel & Resort, the beach is right outside, with the Atlantic stretching out beyond the shoreline. The colors change throughout the day, from soft morning blues to brighter turquoise and the warmer tones that arrive later in the afternoon.

We love those quieter moments when the beach is the main attraction. A walk along the water, a little time listening to the waves, or simply sitting and watching the horizon can be enough.

Key Colony Beach has a wonderfully easygoing pace, and we think the scenery is a big part of that.

There is something about having the water nearby that makes dinner feel a little more relaxed.
