Cove Park is the small beach park across South Kīhei Road from us — surf lessons in the morning, and everyone drifts down for sunset. Crystal had it every night; the pool covered the hours in between.

Haleakalā sunrise from Kīhei: when to leave. Save this one.

The short version: book the 3–7 AM gate reservation on the national park's reservation site ($1 per car, released 60 days out at 7 AM HST, a few more 2 days before), be at the park gate 90 minutes before sunrise, leave Kīhei around 3:00–3:30 AM, and dress for the 30s. Afterwards, walk the top of Keoneheʻeheʻe (Sliding Sands), get breakfast in Kula, and be back at the pool by noon.

Ten bedrooms, one pool, one booking. Villas 1–9 is how you bring everyone.

Nine villas around the pool and pavilion at Villas by the Cove in Kīhei — eight one-bedrooms plus Villa 4, the two-bedroom — booked together for up to 28 guests. Every villa has its own kitchen, bath and lānai, so the grandparents, the cousins and the friends who count as family each get a door of their own. The cove is at the end of the garden path.
