Apparently, we don't know how to stop at just ONE home improvement project. 😂🔨

Ocean Hideaway's upstairs master bedroom is getting a little makeover!

We're saying goodbye to the carpet and hello to beautiful new LVP flooring! And while we're at it… why not freshen up the bedding, pillows, and wall decor too? 🩵

The pillows are in, the flooring is coming, and the finishing touches are still a work in progress!

Because behind every beautiful vacation rental is an owner who keeps finding just one more thing to update. 🤣

Are we the GOATs of vacation rental hosting? 🐐

Well… we certainly like to think so. 😂

Between late-night maintenance calls, endless renovations, assembling furniture, replacing broken things, and making sure every little detail is just right, we've learned that vacation rental ownership is anything BUT passive income.

It's not always glamorous, but we love what we're building together.

And if our guests get to show up, kick back, and enjoy their vacation without worrying about a thing? That's a win in our book.

GOAT status? We'll let our guests decide. 😉

The temperatures are dropping, the sweaters are coming out, and we're still dreaming of beach days. 🌊☀️

But here's a little secret… October might just be our favorite month in the Outer Banks. Fewer crowds, beautiful weather, quiet beaches, and plenty of sunshine.

𝗦𝗮𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗮 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰

POV: You've owned your vacation rental for 30 days and get THIS text at 11 PM.

Water was coming through the ceiling.

Apparently, the guests upstairs while taking a bath had decided to share a little more than the ocean view with us. 💦

Nothing quite prepares you for the moment you realize that being a vacation rental owner means you're also on call for plumbing emergencies you didn't even cause.

The silver lining? We made a new friend in the owner upstairs and managed to get everything repaired within 72 hours, just in time for our next guests.

And that was just our first month at Salty Shenanigans 😅

P.S. Happy to report that no upstairs bathwater has been shared with us since.

Most families skip Big Buck's after summer. That's the mistake.

The flavor board changes daily, and fall brings flavors like sweet potato and salted caramel apple that never show up in July.

If it rains, Glazin' Go Nuts down the road turns the afternoon into painted mugs the kids pick up a few days later.

Both sit under ten minutes from Sandy Shenanigans and Croatan Surf Club, open all through the off-season.

Save this for a rainy or cold afternoon.

My camera roll is basically a collection of renovation projects, paint samples, furniture deliveries, and organized chaos. 😂

Behind every pretty listing photo are countless hours of painting, assembling, decorating, fixing, and wondering why we thought one more project was a good idea.

Roger and I put a lot of time (and sweat!) into making our properties places we'd want to vacation ourselves.

The finished product is always worth it… but our camera rolls definitely tell the whole story. 🔨🏡
