Magic Kingdom day!
Magic Kingdom definitely takes the most steps to get into. First, you have to park at the ticketing and transportation center. Then, after going through security, you take your choice of either the monorail (our choice) or the boat to the front gates of Magic Kingdom. Finally, you scan your tickets and walk through the front gates to the Magic Kingdom! Even though it takes a few steps, we were inside the park in 39 minutes from the time we left the front door! That said, it was not at all crowded for us, and travel times will vary greatly based on how long the security and gate lines are.
Personal tip: if you have the option to go to Magic Kingdom on a day it closes early (6pm) for a party (such as Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party), go that day! Two years in a row, we have gone on a day it closes early and there have been minimal, and I mean MINIMAL, wait times at all of the rides and attractions.
As a very exciting surprise, our 5 year old lost his very first tooth while we were riding the People Mover! Guest Relations gave us a plastic keepsake tooth to put it in for the tooth fairy, and a bunch of stickers to celebrate.

We were back to the Disney parks Monday morning with Hollywood Studios. The first thing we did was head to animation courtyard for the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live show. Right before heading into the theater, many characters paraded out, and Goofy paused to give both kids a high five and a wave. That was enough to make them want to have a character lunch at Hollywood and Vine, which made my heart happy because they previously were adamant about not wanting to personally meet anyone! The late August/early September wait times are so low, so we were able to do so many rides and attractions with minimal waits that by the time it looked like a storm was brewing in the late afternoon, we had accomplished a lot and were ready for a break at home, anyways (balloons in hand). In the evening, we headed back out, but this time to Epcot for dinner in Mexico where everyone enjoyed our dinner (and a bonus ride on the Three Caballeros boat ride in the Mexico pavilion, too). On the way out, we were able to watch the Beacons of Light show on Spaceship Earth, mesmerizing myself and the kids, alike.

We had a full weekend enjoying our vacation without going into the Disney parks. We took full advantage of the kid’s craft activities at the clubhouse (which is 0.29 miles from our doorstep, I tracked it on my watch), making bead bracelets and animal face masks, and got glitter tattoos (which stayed on through swimming!). We spent a lot of time at the community pool and splash pad…the kids absolutely loved the kids water slides, while I cooled off by going down the big water slides. It was nice to see the progress being made on the community poolside cabanas, they are almost finished! Plus, we ordered lunch from the clubhouse grill and took turns eating it at the pool loungers (turkey subs and wraps with chips and fries) so the kids didn’t even have to stop swimming. Oh, and there was a DJ playing music poolside for the afternoon, which was a fun addition for the day.
Dinner was burgers on the propane grill at the house…just frozen burgers but pre-seasoned Vidalia onion ones on brioche buns (all from the Walmart down the road) and my goodness did it taste good! For dessert, we had a banana pudding cake from Publix to celebrate my brother’s birthday. Publix has a huge variety of beautiful cakes you can order and they are delicious. I wish we had a Publix near us back home in Maryland. Tip: we also ordered a fruit platter from Publix so we would have something healthy and easy to snack on all weekend, appreciated by all but my son.

Lake Apopka!
Charlie has had visiting the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive on his mental checklist ever since we bought the house, and today we finally did it! It’s an 11-mile one-way driving tour around the lake where you can see all kinds of Florida wildlife residents. We saw turtles, an Anhinga (snakebird) with just its head popping out of the water, Little Blue Heron, Great Blue Heron, American Alligators (probably 15), Great Egret, and my personal favorite: the Common Gallinule with its bright red forehead. It took us 39 minutes to get to the entrance of the wildlife drive, and we went through in just under 2 hours. There are plenty of areas to pull off to the side if you’d like to park and watch for a while, and a few stops with portapots along the way. The Wildlife drive is free to visit, and is only open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Animal Kingdom day for us! A mere 2.2 miles from the house is the parking lot for Animal Kingdom, so we were there in no time at all!
We woke up, had breakfast, got dressed and went out the door, and were walking through the gates to my daughter’s favorite park by 9 am. The first thing we did was a family photo session in front of the Tree of Life while it was sunny and not too long of a line. Next up, iced and frozen coffees from Starbucks because it was SO hot, and then to the train ride to conservation station where Bluey lives now. Our kids did not want to dance with her, but they did love seeing all of the reptiles and insects, and earning a few badges for their Wilderness Explorer books. We hopped off the train and practically walked right on to the Kilimanjaro Safari, then the Gorilla Falls exploration trail, followed by the Festival of the Lion King (a must-see show), the Winged Encounters show, and one more iced coffee before racing home before the thunderstorm. We were caught in some rain, which is typical of Florida weather, but our son was NOT okay with the thunder, so we just left when that started around 4.
Once home, we still had plenty of time to relax in the living room and the kids played endless games of PacMan and air hockey, ending our day with a dinner made at home (ham and mashed potatoes, just what I needed after French fries, coffee, and cookies from the parks). After the kids were asleep, we went into the hot tub to relax and unwind, perfectly ending our own evening.
We’ll be staying at the house and enjoying the clubhouse and community pool this weekend, stay tuned for those fun days!

We used our time at Sunshine Villa last week to knock out a few upgrades we’ve been wanting to do — and we’re so excited about how everything turned out.

✨ All tile flooring throughout the home was professionally steam cleaned, and it looks and feels fantastic.

☀️ We installed overhead solar lighting inside the pool enclosure, which makes nighttime swims so much more enjoyable. The evening pool vibe is officially elevated.

🏊‍♀️ We made solid plans to move the pool safety fence closer to the house, creating more usable deck space for seating and spreading out.

🌴 We’re also replacing the bottom panel of the pool enclosure with Florida glass — a privacy screen that will give even more privacy while relaxing in the pool and spa.

We love taking time to invest back into the home and keep improving the experience. Can’t wait for everyone to enjoy these updates! Stay tuned for pics!

Last week we spent the week at Sunshine Villa and honestly… our low-key days ended up being some of our favorites.

We did Disney Springs twice (because once just wasn’t enough). Lunch at Rainforest Cafe was a hit with the kids — the animals, the storms, the whole vibe — and then wandering through Once Upon a Toy and the World of Disney after is basically a tradition at this point.

What we loved most was how easy everything felt. Nothing was rushed. We’d head out for a few hours, come back, swim, relax, maybe take a walk around the neighborhood.

Sometimes the best vacations aren’t the rope-drop, marathon ones. They’re the “let’s just go explore and see where the day takes us” kind. And being this close to so many options makes that really easy.
