Master photographer and President of Haleakalā Amateur Astronomers Rob Ratkowski took weekly photos of The Sun for a year at Haleakalā Summit to compose this composite called an analemma that shows the sun’s changing position throughout a year.

Free entry and free water aerobics classes 5 days a week (M, T, W, F, Sa) at 9:30. It's been wonderfully refreshing during this summer of record breaking heat and humidity. What a great resource and free for all of us!

We saw the new show, Na Lio the other night. It's a history of the horse in Hawaii, including cattle arrival, slack key guitar evolution and the wonderful women Pa'u riders. It was marvelous, in an exotic setting in the Launiupoko hills. The horses were amazingly well trained in the elegant moves seen in dressage. There was great music (slack key), hula and chants. This is a great addition to Maui activities! Go see it!

The jacarandas in Lahaina go off about 3 months after those upcountry. This is at my property, West Maui Cottages (the old name, for all you throw back Thursday lovers!) about mid-June of this year.
