Elk Fire: Update from Alpine Village
Lake City remains open. Other lodging properties continue to welcome guests, and we have tremendous confidence in the firefighters, and agencies working tirelessly to protect this community. They have assembled an impressive response, and we are grateful.
As many of you know, Alpine Village is a family-owned and operated business, and our decisions are made with both our guests and our family in mind.
Our situation is somewhat unique. Our family’s home, located north of town along Highway 149, is currently under a Level 2 “SET” evacuation notice. When we temporarily paused operations, we did so with very limited information during a rapidly evolving wildfire. At that moment, we felt it was important to establish a clear course of action rather than wait until circumstances potentially left us with fewer options.
We knew we couldn’t responsibly operate a lodging business while simultaneously living under evacuation readiness with our family, our animals, our staff, and our essential belongings prepared to leave at a moment’s notice.
Over the coming week, we will continue securing a contingency plan for our own lodging should conditions require it. Those efforts will help determine when we can confidently resume normal operations.
We’ve received several thoughtful offers from people wanting to support Alpine Village during this time. The kindness has meant more to our family than we can express. ✨
